Any thoughts on these?

Just looking at one on the Rideaway website - it looks like it might be OK for ponies but would look like a mini skirt on a bigger horse?

I'm looking for a 75/100g (around that) TO rug for my horse (17hh IDx so not a pony!). I like the Premier Equine 70g and should have bought one a couple of weeks ago when they were selling seconds, because now they're normal price and am debating whether I can get away with something cheaper (ie, Shires). It looks like it's really only PE and Shires who make lightweights with filling/light MWs.
 
I have been recommended Shires for my Elephant/horse as people have said they are fab for bigger built horses?
Already have a PE so can certainly vouch for their big horse fit but it has been ripped far more than any other rug by our youngster, Not sure if its not very tough or just that he wore it more maybe.
Bucas Irish rugs do a 50g but they are not very deep, again great around the chest though.

I can't see if you can use the Shires 100g rug with a neck cover? I need something between my no-fill TO and the 220g TO, so 100g(ish) would be ideal but I do want the option of a neck cover for wet days.
 
I was dubious about them until their highland ones was on offer and they did it in my pony's size - it fitted her perfectly! She's only small and most pony rugs seem to be made for giants but this one is perfect, doesnt rub or anything :) Had it a couple of years now and its still in excellent condition :)
 
I've just discovered an Amigo 100g turnout for £75.... I already have the LW (no fill) Amigo TO which means I could get away with using the neck cover from that. Lots of people turnout clipped horses without a neck cover at all and I don't think he'd really notice the difference between just a sheet on his neck and 100g filling cover... If I buy the PE rug then I have to buy a neck cover as nothing else I've got will fit.
 
I've just bought one of their rain sheets for Hovis despite being very dubious that it would fit.
It fits very nicely and the depth is possibly even better than his mastas so I've been pleasantly shocked.

Finding rugs to fit him is a nightmare as he is so big in the neck and the shoulders.
 
Actually another thought, Derby house own brand Medium/light t/o- not sure what weight they are but i got mine a L/W in the next size up and its a good fit, not too pricey either
 
I prefer brands that i have grown up with and have been tried and tested by my animals hence there are brands I will only consider.

I like Shires - Good quality, Generally have proper twin buckle fastening (than the ridiculous and dangerous surcingle front fastenings!) Never had a rug 'rain in'

There is a 180g tempest rug which is very good and i can recommend.
 
haven't seen all your replies but weatherbeeta do the landa in a 100g weight.
mark todd do the autumner in a 150g
fal, bucas and PE do 40 to 50g turnouts.
I've also never found shires to be shallow, they are normally a good fit and nice rugs.
 
I swear by Shires rugs. Every time that I need a new rug I get one of theirs. We have a 13.2 lightweight cob, and two middleweight ISH with good shoulders and back ends. All of them fit really well. They have also done a few seasons - even on a rug destroyer! Compared to similar priced rugs of other makes (Derby House for one) they are streets ahead.
 
I have the no fill tempest ones and the 180's - both very nice fitting rugs and have never leaked yet! not bad on the pocket either....
