can anyone tell me their experience of Shires rugs?

I am looking to get a lightweight no fill rain sheet and have seen a few rugs on ebay...

The ginger one is quite broad chested so really want a good fit at the front, Weatherbeeta and Rambo fit him great, Rhinegold far to tight in the chest rubs him bald.

I have a couple of their heavy quilted fleece rugs- they are lovely quality and fit really well round the shoulders if that helps!

I wouldnt go past shires rugs! They are fab, my mare is also veeeerry large chested and necked and they fit perfectly! And last forever, well worth the money. What sort is your mare?

I've got a shires no-full as an emergency cheapy but its been brilliant, waterproof in even heavy rain and has lasted well I'm super pleased with it!

Mine are all kitted out in shires both tb one fairly broad and fit really well, I've got the cheapy tempest no fills and they have been excellent even in heavy rain

excellent, will get one ordered today!

he is an arab x ISH, 16.2, very big shoulder, big chest, well set neck.

thanks for your replies, feeling confident it should be a good fit!

Should work out well for you :) My horse is 17hh, takes a 7' in the Shires, and the cheapy Tempest no fill rug is what he wore all winter, through rain, hail, snow, hurricanes... it never leaked (he's not clipped and runs hot, so doesn't need fill, just a "raincoat"). He is very broad in the chest and we get rubs with Premier Equine, Horseware, Weatherbeeta, Masta...

This was the cheapest rug I have ever bought him, and has been the best (and I bought another to keep in the store cupboard for when this one dies :)).

I got a few of these as cheapy emergency rugs and wasnt expecting much.

Well blow me down but they are really surprisingly nice rugs! Well worth the money and Ive repeat purchased.

Got a typhoon light weight and it is fab. It is about 5 years old as used it on my past horse and now using it on my current horse and is still really waterproof. Doesn't leak at all!! And a good fit on my chunky spotty except it is a size larger than I would normally have on him and so he gets a wet chest but since I have it I thought I may as well use it!
Just bought one for my exmoor- the tempest- but haven't used it yet so am interested to see how it lasts.

I have got a no fill shires. I have been pretty impressed with it. The only complaint I would make is that the front buckles are quite weak. My gelding is not normally a rug wrecker but he managed to break both front clips.

are they true to size? I need winter rugs for my boy as all his have rubbed him as he has high withers and massive shoulders and well set neck...more warmblood then TB. I have a 6'9 amigo on him at mo and it fits really well- sits that bit higher up neck than most makes so i think that helps with the fit, would you buy a size down for shires or try same as amigo sizing?

I would say they are true to size. I've got a couple of Shires Highlander rugs for two different shape horses (a TB and an Anglo Arab) and they are a good fit.

I have found that Shires rugs are fantastic and true to size, it's Horseware that are skimpy! ;)

If he fits a 6'9 Amigo, I would be tempted to try a 6'6 Shires unless you think that a slightly bigger fit would be fine anyway. The 6'0 Shires Typhoon that I have has a very adjustable front and it fits a horse that has a 6'3 Amigo.

All my shires rugs have been good. They are a decent size. My horse is between a 6ft3 and a 6ft6. Hes a 6ft6 in Masta and Amigo but a 6ft3 in the shires. I would buy a shires rug again :).

We have two, it rubbed very slightly on one of our ponies but used an anti rub vest to solve and they have turned out to be really good (we have the shires highlander combo)

There are some bargain Shires Typhoons on Ebay at the moment and they really are super rugs, very tough and waterproof. The Shires Stormcheeta is a top quality turnout too.

All 3 of mine have got a all neck mw/hw each & a shires tempest lite each & they are brilliant. 2 of the lw's are no fill & one is with fill, but they have been fab in all this horrid weather. Would def buy them again if needed :D
