Im having a nightmare finding a rug with a neck to fit my young clipped Highland pony. Hes a 6'3 but all the necks are too snug. He needs the neck cover when turned out to protect his mane from his friends love of grooming it out
I love Swish but they are out of stock, tried a Weatherbeeta combo, Gallop combo but too snug, so back to looking for detachable necks. I dont want to spend a fortune as hes still growing plus I have loads of decent 6'6 but they are too long atm, although the necks fit great. If I could find a 6'3 rug only with the velcro neck attachments Id mix and match with what I already have.

How do the Shires detachable necks come up size wise please, are they the same as the Tempest stable rug set? How does the neck attach? Or any other suggestions please?

Thanks in advance

What about a masta with the dome neck? They have them on the Harry Hall site.
I quite like Shires but tried one on a big necked horse at work recently and he wouldn’t have been comfortable grazing in it, obviously I don’t know how his neck would compare with your horse!

I use shires for my Arab's I have the 100g Tempest detachable and it fixes to the rug with 2 straps of velcro either side of the rug, I think the necks are quite roomy but although my arabs are not really fine they are quite wide through the body and chest they are probably not as chunky as a Highland.

I find them really good value rugs and all the recent ones take any sort of liner I have a variety and they all fit, I would say they are true to size as I have weatherbeeta as well and use the same size as those.

Thank you all, Ive tried a Masta Dome neck, oooos forgot about that, fits lovely, a bit hmm at the bottom where the neck bit starts but I cant seem to find one in 100g in 6'3 at a decent price.
I havent looked at Rhinegold, thank you.
I have the Tempest stable rug set and it fits fab, they are so good for the money. If the neck attaches the same way on the turnouts then I will be able to use a bigger neck on it from my 6' 6 rugs. On the pics the necks look really narrow hence asking, thank you

I use the Highlander with detachable necks-not sure if the necks are the same as the tempests-but I use a large on my Fell (big neck) and its great-tiny bit long but roomy enough. I find the tempests too snug on him though.

Thank you, Im sick of buying rugs now lol, its the cost to send them back :( Auslander I have both 6' 3 and 6' 6 in the Tempest stable rug and the 6' 6 is too big, was it the turnouts you find come up small please?
Ive never heard of Rachael Kelly equestrian, thank you ecb89
Lots have said the Highlander, thank you Motherofchickens, Ive struggled to find one with a detachable neck. I think the fasteners are different to the others, are yours 2 fasteners either side or a velcro strip please?

I've just bought some Shire's rugs and I found they come up quite small, luckily I ordered for the bigger pony first and so it wasn't a problem it came up small but the 5ft6 is just about big enough for my 13.2

I have this rug… the neck is actually quite generous and I love the fact it’s detachable. My boy is a 6ft3 too but it is a little short in the body (I like good long tail flaps and this is fine, but a little on the short side) and he also has a super wide chest and the 6ft3 fits him well although I probably could get away with a 6ft6 in this rug. Mark Todd are also very generous around the necks, as is Horseware.
