I have one

I have him for eventing and he is very clever, sorts his feet out uses his head and never finds himself in trouble

I have hunted him once and although he is not overly stocky like a shire he is built well for hunting and if i have the time i would love to really have a go at hunting him next season. I have heard from a few people that shire Xs can be quite late maturing which as for mine probably a fair comment. He has never lacked maturity at competitions but he is 9 this year and has only just learnt that it is not exceptabe to pull me every were in his headcollar

Altough i may be a bit biased i (:p) I really do think that they are very good horses who are capable of doing a bit of anything

Our big girl (3/4 TB 1/4 Shire) is brilliant. She's very laid back to handle, practically goes to sleep between classes but gets it together to perform. She hasn't done much with us due to injury but has done Novice BE (not wildly successfully, she's a PN girl really) with her previous owner.

She's doing her second XC round with my daughter tomorrow, it will be 3' and hopefully she'll handle it as well as she does everything else.

Last weekend she was at Hartpury, my daughter's third ever SJ class with her having qualified them with a team for the BRC Novice Indoor SJ. She was fab there, very sensible in the face of far more intimidating conditions than certainly my daughter had ever seen before. Daughter did 4th and 5th SJ rounds with her there, so not a lot of practice!

If I could find another with the same temperament and ability I'd buy it like a shot.

I've got a half shire (mum) half TB. He's fab, only 5 but takes everything in his stride and has the most wonderful temperament. Never going to be a world beater but is going to make someone a very safe alrounder/hunter. He's also very smart!

The horse in my sig is half Shire half TB, and is absolutely amazing. His temperament is so laid back, although he is quite spooky, but he is so easy for anyone to handle or to ride. Today he went around the farm with a 63 year old novice on him, and didn't put a foot wrong! He is also one of the most affectionate horses I have ever met, and willing to do anything for just about anyone.

Competition wise, he is a bit of a dressage specialist, having competed up to BD Elementary with his previous owner. He also has a good jump on him - previous owner said they thought he had the scope to affiliate BSJA. However, the reason that they sold him is that he would never make the time cross country - very slow and steady, my Sidney.

His next door neighbour at the yard is also half Shire half TB - again, a fabulous temperament, and also really talented at dressage and jumping. Honestly, I never thought of getting a Shire/TB before, but after meeting these two boys I am a fan for life! Wonderful wonderful horses, totally genuine and a pleasure to own and ride.

Carol Parsons has 2 at GP dressage Giddy, and I can't remember the other ones name. Brendon Hill stud (used to stand Ben Faerie, and have Ben's Affaere, Future Role and It's Without Doubt) like them so much they bought some Shire mares specially to put to their TB stallions. I've never heard anyone say a word against the cross.

I've ridden one and he had a trot like a giant welsh sec D, really stunning chap very handsome. Not a jumper by any means but I think that was more the specific horse not the parents!

A really stunning horse though and plenty of dressage potential.

I've only ever dealt with one and he was lovely. Could turn his hand to some serious flatwork as well as decent jump heights

Taught me a hell of a lot in his day.

Gamebird, he is gorgeous!

From what I've heard the sharpness is a bit unusual, I'm lucky that mine has the placidness of the Shire.

I love seeing everyone's pics, gorgeous horses!

Barbara will be 17 this year and I've had her since she was 8 and I was 15. She's a bit ol' lump at 16.3hh, especially when I was a lil' stingy girl with no arms or legs but she has been, and still is, worth her weight in gold! I've competed her up to 1.10 Newcomers and jumped a few BE intermediate fences but she isn't built for dressage (uneven through her whole body as got kicked in the face by her mum as a baby!) My 8yo neice now rides round her and I leadrein them through the village, a she is a little star. Anyone can do anything with her!
