Shirt and tie. You can match you tie to the browband.

If you have a look around at the shows, you might notice that navy jackets and hats are more popular than black. Which classes are you wanting to do? Tweed might be more appropriate....

shirt and tie.

I wear a black pikeur diana jacket and i have won classes, i dont think a class can be won or lost on the colour of your jacket

I am doing veteran maybe riding horse not sure about that yet though
I have a new black jacket so really dont want to have to buy another at the moment but if it will make that much difference i will have to
what is the best colour shirt to get also make and cheapest place
thanks in advance for help

Thank you Black-Horse my hat is black as well
Its only local so hope it does not make that much difference
By the way your horse is lovely

A woman shouldn't wear black for showing as traditionally it was only worn when in mourning.
I also don't think black jackets look as smart as a tweed or navy jacket.
Even local shows nowadays are very competitive and you will rarely see black hats and jackets.

riding horse it would be more correct to wear a tweed, but at local level you will get away with black.

but definately shirt and tie

yup tweed for you for those classes really!!! (Maybe the shop u got ur black from would be willing to trade it for you and just put a bit more in towards a tweed one! so long as you have not worn it already! hehe)

To be honest though, at local level, I doubt it would make the world of difference unless you are at the same rosette level as another rider in the correct gear!

and it can happen! i got placed 2nd instead of 1st for having a navy jacket on (was too poor for tweed at the time!

) and a girl with a slightly less good horse got 1st for having the correct gear! (was rather miffed but hey!)

I don't get this I have been out showing all summer and I can honestly say I haven't seen one black jacket at any of the shows (apart from SJ classes)
Local level really has got a lot better in recent years and everyone seems to take it a lot more seriously especially the area that I show in.

Make the best from what you have, if its local level and you've just bought a black jacket then just wear that, but ideally depending on the class, its tweed or blue, black is not correct but there are loads of people that wear black, so don't worry about it and if your horse goes lovely then you won't get placed down just because of your jacket, although the judge may advise you not to wear it in the future.

But do team it up with a nice shirt and tie, you could buy a plain white cheap shirt (make sure its got a good fitted collar on it though) and stick it in the wash with a few brand new yellow dusters, this will turn your shirt yellow/cream (like the showing shirts you buy) but at half the price.
