Ok, so for those that know and don’t know, my wonderful MIL is now a permanent resident in a care home for dementia. Thanks to a dear friend of my MiL who runs a rescue (never kennelled - straight into foster homes) there is one remaining dog to home. We have decided to take her. I would’ve loved to take them all but I already have three dogs, one of which is a large, young, energetic but sweet tempered bitch. The bitch that we are taking on is 14years old - we owned her litter sister, who sadly died last December. This particular bitch is very sweet but of a nervy disposition. I’m starting to lack confidence and need advice and reassurance regarding introducing them all. I’m picking her up tomorrow.

I'm so happy for the old girl. Just chill, I am sure it will be fine.
Usual stuff like no toys and shut them apart when you go out but I think it is lovely that you are having her.
I often think of your MIL but rarely go in Club House.

Thanks Clodagh. She’s not good. Broke her femur three weeks ago (whilst in care) and is now bed bound.

Introduce them on a walk.

Take her home

And the rest will fall in to place xx

Yep, this has always been my strategy with a new pooch and it hasn't failed me yet. Rufus can be difficult with strange dogs but once he walked with the dog in a calm manner, he will accept them easily.

Just to add, don't try to do too much too soon when you get home. Obviously feed, water and walk the new girl but other than that, leave her be to find her own place in her new world. There will be plenty of time for fussing and faffing once she's settled.

Good luck, you will be fine, just don't overthink it (as has already been said).
