I was recently searching some videos on YouTube, and came across a video of the death of Korean rider Kim Hyung Chil at the Asian Games. I was so shocked and horrified at this video, and I think that it is totally unacceptable to have uploaded it!

If you do want to see it go here, and scroll down the page - http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=horse+falling+cross+country&search=Search

Er - so why post it on here to draw other people to see it?

It is also flagged as possibly having inappropriate content - I didn't log in to watch it I must say.

The person who uploaded the video, in essence, did no more than put it in a public place so that it could be seen by more people.........that is exactly what you have done by posting the link on this page.

I personally see nothing wrong with showing it - I think many people forget how dangerous horse riding is, this a very straight forward jump, one similar to what many of us have jumped many times - yet this time for this experienced rider things went horribly wrong.

The more we come to terms with the fact that riding is dangerous the safer and more cautious the people who enjoy this hobby will become and I think it is a step in the right direction.

I admit i watched it - classic rotational fall and looks like he died instantly

wish i hadnt watched it tbh

cant believe somebody would post that on youtube - yes it has a warning but it is unacceptable to put up a death
Tbh i felt exactly the same when i saw pictures in the newspaper of caroline pratts death scene by seene as the horse fell - final scene had the horse about an inch before it landed on her
Some people just go too far

Well I did actually log in in the end to see it. As GTs says it is a reminder of how dangerous our sport is - and to me, as a mother, a reminder that I assist and make it possible for my daughter to jump very similar obstacles - rather a straightforward one really. Just extremely unlucky that that fall went the way it did.

Incidentally there is something more than a little ghoulish about deliberately searching sites such as that for accidents - which is of course what you were doing with that search title.

I agree with kayleigh_and_rocky u didnt have to watch it, she said she found it and put the link if people did want to see it, its not like she posted it on youtube, she accidentally come across it on youtube and was shocked it was there.

I didn't find it offensive to see what happened - as others say is straightforward jump and very unfortunate that the horses back leg came down where it did/ that rider fell where he did.

What i found offensive was the repetition of the fall. In slow motion. Several times.

Guys done have a go at her

I saw it at the time and thought how sad it was but was not shocked or horrified, it is just how eventing goes occasionaly. Though someone who is going to be shocked and horrified to watch a horse fall xc though, should not be searching youtube for "horse falling cross country".

I watched - and yes it was just a classic rotational fall which no one could have forseen. It is as GT says a good reminder for all of us that it is a dangerous sport. I do agree with finn tho - the tasteless bit is the repitition of the clip - theres no need to show it again and again. Its a very sad loss of an experienced rider - but at least it would have been quick I guess - he wouldnt really have had time to think that it was going terribly wrong - so maybe he died doing what he loved - riding across country.

I am totally confused when people say they died doing what he loved - I am sure he did not love falling off.

Just watched it and it looks like he died the second the horse landed on his head.
I feel more sorry for his family who can access it than any of us, we didn't know him.
It is a high risk sport, and if people sat and thought hard about it perhaps they wouldn't do it, as it is most think it won't happen to them.
Two of my family compete XC, and of course it may happen, but these days crossing the road can be lethal too. I had some dreadful falls in my career including two which could have killed em and in both cases I ended up in hospital.
It didn't put me off at all, though the next few times I had to tackle banks my heart beat quicker..(both were horses falling off banks and landing on top of me...)
Horrible vid, in a way I wished I hadn't looked...

I did watch it, such a tragic and unfortunate accident, it certainly puts out a reminder to how unsafe our sport is, especially since the jump in the video was so stright forward.

I understand that people may think she is increasing the video's publicity which to an extent she is by posting a link, making it available to more people but it is only increasing it's publicity if people actually watch it!

I don't think it is offensive to post videos such as this, as like I previously said it does remind people how dangerous the sport is, but what I do find offensive and quite sick about the video is how many times they replyed the fall in slow motion!!!

RIP Kim Hyung Chil

Was just going to say - what about the photos of Caroline Pratt in the sunday papers a couple of years ago - good point Kayleigh

it is unacceptable but also agree with GTS - highlights the dangers of that sport.

Think how many of us have seen Thrills & Spills and watched it over and over again seeing people fall off.

And on a tangent, I doubt it'll be that long before actual footage of Saddam Hussain's hanging will be on the net

If you search for "thrills and spills" you don't know that the horse or rider didn't suffer severe injury, even fatal in some cases. SF didn't have to watch this, it very clearly says what it is, nobody would be fooled into watching it accidentally.

Its not nice, but equally it has as much of a place to watch as anything else.

If you found it unacceptable that somebody should upload the video of the rider dieing why did you then go and post the link to the search page it was on on an open public forum?

I'm really sorry for causing so much hassle, didn't think it would cause this much uproar. BTW - I did not watch the video, as I am not over 18, but I knew exactly what it was about as a few people had told me about it. I honestly didn't want to watch it myself, as from what I heard it was meant to be absolutely horrible

i wouldnt worry about it.......looking at some of the previous posts i think there might be some double standards going on?????? whats the difference between whatching that poor person die.....and watching sadam hussain die.........its death .....like birth.....its the only thing in life you can be sure about

after reading all that I just had to sign up and watch it. I must say I was neither shocked nor horrified. It has reminded me how precious life is and must not be taken for granted..... Glad to be a happy hacker.. !!

i watched it and i dont think any kind of preventative measure could have beentaken, the death looked pretty instantanious, its a reality check to all riders things can happen just like that, BUt what i found sick was A) the music and B) the repetive showing of it !

And taxes, apparently.
How is watching an execution the same as watching an accident? The motivation for watching each is entirely different. Judging from the comments on YouTube in response to some of the prank execution vids, many, many people are really keen to see Sadam hang because of the fear and hatred he spawned...
I think you do the Korean rider a disservice by comparing the two.

Like others that have posted it is sad for the relatives and friends for the rider but we get on our horses everyday and 99.9% of us return safe and sound!

We must remember that accidents do happen and even if we have all the safety measures in place-things can still go wrong.

Life has its dangers everyday-getting into a car and driving to work on a busy crowded road works laden motorway, crossing the street, and just generally living life!

Just enjoy what time you have!

My reference to Suddam Hussain was that it will be an unpleasant video that will sooner or later be put online.

I'm not comparing the execution to the tragic death of someone; but instead highlighting the fact that in this day & age, stuff will appear on the net that some people wont want to see

Didn't photos fly around the net of Steve Irwin's death?
