Shocked at adverts

I'm desperately searching for a new horse so have been browsing the internet more than it is healthy! I have to say I am totally shocked at some adverts. The number of young horse loose jumping in snowy, frozen schools is unbelievable.

Why do people feel you need to see a picture of a horse in a rug lying down?

Have to agree with you on all those. The 3 year old WB jumping X-country fences out hacking particularly shocking. I think all the ads are missing a bottom line saying something along the lines of " . . and will be totally knackered by the time it's 10"
 
That's the thing. The sellers don't care because they are passing any future leg\back issues onto some other poor sod who buys those horses. Atrocious really.

I'd love to buy the mare that's pictured show jumping and turn her away for 6 months - she probably deserves a rest.
 
OMG - I cant believe my eyes esp the warmblood mare - what is more worrying is when did they actually start her jumping for her to be doing what she is now?
Im so please i dont have to look for another horse to buy but feel truly sorry for some of these poor sods.
 
just saying....

...i jumped on my school last week, and i bet it looked like that, but under the snow the surface was soft and springy and WD40 in my boys feet stopped it balling up so they maybe arent committing such a crime???

as for that lovely mare-she is technically a 4yo this year thus able to compete, if lightly backed last summer and bought back in to work over xmas i dont see why she wouldnt be ready to jump a BN now? naturally balanced and scopey horses, that arent spooky would fine BN a walk in the park, she doesnt look stressed. and the XC jumps could be tiny logs and ditches so i wouldnt slate the owners too heavily just yet!
 
I know a lot of top showjumpers who breed or buy foals in, loose jump them as foals and keep the ones which look to have top potential and sell the others. Often wonder if that is detrimental to them, or perhaps having a light bodyweight makes it not too bad?
 
note - the warmblood mare and the warmblood colt are jumping 'at home' from the same place?? - Same poles, same wings, same fence around the arena.... or maybe there are 2 of the same (sure this happens). The molbile numbers are similar but not the same - oh who knws!!
But, those ads in general are rediculus! Poor ponies. Hope they find a good home.
 
i really like the 2yr old (technically 3) in wiltshire, but def agree is too early to back

I browse the PRE adverts - I am a breeder in Spain, and know where many of these horses come from.

Amazing how between dealer A and dealer B, the same horse, in the same foto has grown 2 centimeters and increased in price by 3 000 euros . . . .
 
I bought my pony when he was about 20 months old - she first put an ad on saying he was backed and then when she got a bit more desperate as needed quick sale put a big notice on saying now broken and ridden on roads. Not impressed. He still looked like a foal. I only went to look at him out of interest but bought him home. I did nothing with him other than handle him until last summer and then we had long lining lessons and stuff and did fun things. He's 3 now and I sat on him and had a walk. Has fractured his pedal bone now so is on box rest so treating this as him being turned away. I understand that serious competition horses are produced as quickly as possible but I want an all rounder who is going to last me years and years to have fun with so I'm not rushing him. Only good thing is he is totally bombproof having had kids and dogs attacking him from a foal and when I went to see him he was loose next to a tracor and lots of black plastic lol.
 
I kind of agree with Princess Sparkle on that nice looking mare - she looks completely confortable, balanced and happy and as long as she is not overused, isn't too likely to be doing anything too damaging in the long term.

Think it is a case for horses for courses again....if the horse is well grown on, balanced and mature, then I don't see why it shouldn't jump, so long as it isn't flogged round all the time - making it go in ever decreasing circles on the flat could also be very damaging in the long run but people don't get so excited about that when they should!

As a case in point, my 24 year tbx old mare was introduced to XC and SJ at 3.5 years and was still completely sound when she was retired at 17.

Don't like the idea of riding 2 year old (defo not - though if it was backed, then why is she not showing a pic of it being ridden? Could she be telling porkies just try try and make it look more attractive for those not in the know?) and the last advert is v wrong! What is going on there!
