Were having it off - the gelding is not at all riggy but my mare must have said something smutty to him!! Very shocked livery owner though! We have seperated them, but I have never come across this before - I mean I know they can get a bit excited, but never known a mare and gelding to have full blown nooky!!! Utterly disgusted with her, is it common?

You have clearly not brought your mare up properly or she wouldn't have accepted this Lothario's advances.
I suggest you sit your mare down and have a serious talk with her about her behaviour...unless the gelding has prospects, in which case marriage is called for.

(PS. It happens quite often, and is nothing to get worried about)

Common? No, not at all, even nice, middle-class horses do it!

Maybe you should change your username to 'rand(y)ra' though?

Seriously though, if it keeps 'em quiet & out of mischief, I should leave 'em to it! lol

My gelding, who is not at all riggy and had never before or since shown any interest in mares, was discovered having 'full blown nooky' with a rather nice black TB mare a couple of years ago. He was obviously madly in love. We separated them, and he pined a bit, but has never shown any such inclinations towards any other mare. And he's out with three mares atm. Very strange.

one of the geldings solo (also a gelding) was turned out with used to mount him.... we seperated them too cos he was a big WB nd sols only a little TB. and its just wrong anyway!

Ha Ha!!! It was the ciggarette smoking afterwards that gave it away. I thought that only people and dolphins 'did it' for fun... guess theres nothing wrong with it then

Lady's not proud

she used to stand down the ditch to let my friends Welsh A have his wicked way. (He's the only gelding that we've ever seen mount her though)
Fudge wouldn't have a clue what to do

My cob gelding mounts my 3 mares regularly from January onwards through the summer... no harm has come of it. He's been doing it for the last 6 years or so.

I always thought my Murphy was a paragon of virtue until he was led astray by a Mrs Robinson type of mare old enough to be his granny. He regularly mounted her, we used to laugh as it was in a field next to some traffic lights and we wonder how many people missed the lights as they were watching the horses. I was always told that gelding cannot have full blown penetration but that is a lie, Murphy was tested for being a rig and was negative, but then he does like geldings as well and has a particular liking for chestnut TB's of any gender. We even got on Radio 1 with Sara Cox when she did her gay pet thingy.

My gelding used to "do it" with my friends mare! We were a bit shocked to say the least lol!!!
I bred him so I know he was gelded at arround 15mths and he only started this carry on when he was about 6!!!

My old un of 29 and 14,2 is trying it on wqith my new 16hh TB mare ! Never ever shown signs of this before lol and has been with mares all his life

Ha ha, same happened with my new mare and randy gelding.... all the way too. I was pegging out some washing when I first saw them and nearly swallowed a peg. Brazen little hussy. Not sure what I am going to do about them I must admit, am waiting for the next time she comes into season to see if they settle down or not.

At my yard we have mares and geldings out together, and I have to admit that I occassionally have to look the other way sometimes!!! All parties concerned seem very happy with their 'extra cirricular activities' and no harm has come to either mares or geldings. Before my move to this yard my mare had only ever been out with mares, and always been quite a loner, whereas she is now properly part of a herd and seems really happy and settled. Although I've never caught her actually 'at it', I have definately interrupted some of the others!!!!!!!

my mare used to always be 'at it' with her gelding field companion!

At my friends yard a big showjumper mare lay down for a shetland, they had a very cute baby

My five year old polish warmblood gelding is extremely randy!!! He was not gelded until he was four and I think he still thinks he's got what it takes!!! He lives in a herd with ten other horses and before he came they were very separate or paired up in the field. Now he has come it has brought the herd together and everybody has a place. He has three old cobby native mares which seem to be constantly in season. He will mount them all daily, and they just stand for him which he thinks is great. There is a yearling which he truly believes is his son, they are inseparable!!! The other horses are a mixture of young and old gelding competition horses. It is quite worrying however because I have seen him mount one of the geldings quite a few times and the gelding appears to enjoy it!!!!!!!!!

It is funny because he displays all the stallion behaviour and the mounting seems to make him keep his crest. He even moves them all round the field like a sheepdog! Whoever said a gelding could not get a proper erection is wrong, he spends the majority of his life with a ahem rather stiff member!!

Even when you brush him, or pat him it seems to turn him on. he is just a very loved up horsey!

my little mare used to be very flirty and would have to be in a field with mares due to her flirting so much with geldings that in the end things would happen...she would flirt to an extent so much so that in the end I believed the geldings just did what they had to, to get her to go away......I always remember when I was 9 walking to the field to bring her in and there she was having a right good time...I was shocked...
