just wondering if anyone as had this done on their horses

long story but will keep it short
we have just got to the bottom of our mares problems and been advised to have this therapy done on her for her aftercare

outcome is she is to have 8 weeks box rest with in hand walking building up from 5 mins to 20 mins twice daily over the weeks

ultrascan showed up her proximal suspensory ligament of the right hind so we are advised to have shockwave therapy --
she is also to have physio on her back and sacrioliac area stating in the next 3 weeks

she is due to be seen again in june to decide if she needs the operations on her spine and ligament

yes, you should definitely go for it for proximal suspensory disease. it worked fab on my old horse. he had PSD in his right hind and was sound by the 3rd shockwave treatment.

My boy was diagnosed with this on tue but both fore legs. He also is on 6 weeks box rest then walking out in hand. He started shockwave therapy immediately and is also having cartrophen inj so will watch this post eagerly! Good luck :-)

My mare has just had her second session of shockwave for a near fore suspensory injury. She is also having Cartrophen injections weekly, vet has said 3 months boxrest, we got the injury early too :(

I think you have a good chance of success if it's a new injury. My big horse had 3 sessions and after 6 months box rest with restricted exercise he was sound. However, he broke down again a year later and had both hind suspensories de-nerved. This has, I'm afraid, been only of limited success and after another 7 months of box rest/restricted exercise he was ok but again went lame 6 months later. He had 14 months off in the field and only hacks gently, at his pace, now. However, I would not change the way we tried to treat him - even the box rest (both times were over the winter and he was and is quite happy in - although the walk exercise was interesting at times!!) as I've done everything I can to help him.

My horse is completing 3 months box rest this week. He has had 3 sessions of shock wave therapy during this time. Vet is coming on Wednesday to see him although Im not sure whether he will be able to tell if he is sound as he is probably quite stiff due to the confinement. If all goes well he will be walked for five minutes a day for the first week and then the exercise will gradually be increased. He has been an absolute angel on box rest which has really surprised me as I thought he would be climbing the walls. He's probably going to turn into a monster once we start the walking!
I will let you know how things go.

I have had a horse treated with shockwave after diagnosis for inflamation of the proximal suspensory ligament. He initially had just a steriod injection but he did not come sound as they wanted so proceeded with shockwave. Came sound and has been jumping and competing ever since with no hiccups. I am a big fan, we used it a fair amount on the racehorses with good results too. Expensive but well worth it!
