My horse was recently diagnosed with kissing spine following a full body scan and x-rays. He has had one cortisone injection in his back and have been lunging for the last four weeks very long and low. I am pleased to say he has already improved in his back. My vet is now about to start a siz week session of both shockwave therapy (swt) and physio. I don't know much about swt and would be interested to hear from anyone whose horse has had swt and what the results have been etc. Also any other alternative therapies that may be useful in assisting with KS would be great - I have just bought a equilibrium magnetic back pad, but he's only had this on twice so too early to say if this has helped a bit!

My ned had KS surgery and can be very difficult to ride but has improved no end on Devils Claw, I think it just helps with the scar tissue pain, regular physio too and he wears a magnetic rug at night which helps with circulation.

I heard some things about Devil's Claw being bad on the liver but not sure how true that is. I'd like to give him a supplement but there is so much out there, it;s difficult to know which one. ive also heard of Danilon but I don't know much about that.

Danilon is just an alternative to Phenylbutazone but a lot of neds find it more palatable.
I've not heard anything about DC being bad for the liver but would be interested if it is but is has honestly made a massive difference to Wills, prior to surgery he would bronc until I came of and this ended in a fractured spine for me! Post surgery and quite a while down the line he has become utterly diffeent to ride and doesn't even appear to think about broncing. Leaping, spinning and sqeaking loudly full of the joys of spring but no broncing!!

My little lad had a six week corse of shockwave therapy along with cortizone injections for KS. He didn't have any areas where bones met but ther were 4 sections that were closer together than ideal.
The treatment has worked wonders and both vet a physio are very pleased with is back now.

Thats great to hear. My boy had his first session today. Physio first, then shockwave after. He has two more sessions of both over the next four weeks. Fingers crossed it works wonders for him too!

Sorry to be bearer of bad news, but it didn't touch my boy at all - but having said that, nothing worked. He has 12 impinging vertebrae and his lumbar spine is attempting to fuse to itself at present...
Your options for treating medically include Tildren, steroid injections intra-articularly, shockwave, physio, lunge work with pessoa, devils claw, joint supplements, even maybe acupuncture?
Good luck, a lot of horses come right with perseverence! And remember to get your saddle checked regularly.
