Ive had the neds insurance claim accepted now, so hes going to get booked in for Shockwave, as well as the Physio treatment and Ultrasound he has already had at the rehab yard.

Had some good news

, in that he is totally pain free (on danilon though), and ready to start ridden work in 2 1/2 weeks time (although this will be the test to see if is really healing)!!!!

This is significant improvement, in that 2 months ago if you touched it, he would bronc all over the stable and try and kill you!

Has anyone any experiences of it treating Ligament Strains (although the neds is his supraspinous ligament over his spine).
 
Had the shockwave done for hind suspensories. Didn't work at all and I;ve heard similar reports of non-effectiveness. So, hopefully you will be in the minority where it does work but don't get your hopes up then you won't be so disappointed as I was. I was told 70% chance of working!
 
I do know a few people who have had good results in legs rather than spine, so i guess its worth a try, but i do take your point about it not working.

We have went down the physio / ultrasound / non ridden exercise route first (im pleased i did now!). Im not exactly sure of the efficacy of ultrasound either mind if anyone can enlighten me???
 
After quizzing my vet at great length on shockwave, he said that basically it does sometimes work although there is no clear answer on why, or why it might not. Obviously it's impossible to tell in each case if it has been responsible for healing or if this would have happened anyway, but some studies do show increased rates of recovery to full work after use of shockwave. One theory is that the waves applied to the ligament generate 'micro-abrasions' - tiny amounts of damage that stimulate the healing response, thus helping with the original problem.

My vet has used it on a hind suspensory ligament and then a few months later on the back, which had become very stiff and seized up due to all the lameness issues. The hind seems to be almost sound now (better than it was) and th osteopath says that the back has improved significantly. Whether it's due to shockwave or natural healing, I have no idea.

But it probably doesn't do any harm and is non-invasive, so if the insurance company are paying...
 
As you know Happy had all sorts of things done to his back. He's been turned away properly since beginning August and now his back doesn't react at all. Whether it was ultrasound or shockwave or the stem cell treatment - who knows but he seems to be on the mend. Thank god for the NFU!!

Yep, NFU been kind to me too - got first cheque yesterday!

Im pleased to hear he is pain free, nice to hear some positives! Looks like the physio and ultrasound has worked on Hugo (dont know how it works thou lol!).

Ill give the shockwave a go too - i need my baby back in action - for good!
