Mare managed to rip off a back shoe on the way to a lesson yesterday. Luckily instructor has all the gear so shoe fully removed, cleaned, disinfected, poulticed and wrapped in a matter of minutes! There was a very small puncture wound at edge of foot where she'd stood on the clip and it was bleeding (not heavily). She's been in since but will go out in a boot when I get one today. Would you get antibiotics from vet just in case or just continue to poultice for next few days? She wet in school whilst I mucked out this morning and looked sound enough.
Farrier will def be needed not least because she's removed some hoof wall (that is relatively superficial). That's 2 shoes lost in the 7 days since she was shod - even more convinced taking her BF at next cycle is the right decision!
