Shoe costs?

a normal shoeing here in Shropshire is around £60 to £65 depending on how far they have to travel.
the actual shoes only cost about £5 so a refit would be quite expensive.

Well the last time I had the farrier I was using before I moved, he refitted without me asking (I was expecting new) and refunded me £2....(ETS I'd paid YO)

I don't bother with refits any more....

Mine is £60 for a set, £55 for re-fits. The main cost is his time, fuel etc not the actual shoes so re-fits aren't much cheaper.

I get charged £60 for a full set of new, £55 for refits (which I hate and have specifically asked not to have again) and £40 for either fronts or hinds.

I normally pay £56 and it was £50 for refits. I thought it may be a bit less than that. That'll teach me for not asking before he did it, I may as well have just paid for new.....ah well, live and learn!

Blimey, my share horse's owner has just changed to a new farrier, (old one lamed him!) and he charges £85 a set...... just confirmation that south east england is the MOST expensive place to live in the world.... hate it!!

Have to agree wwith you there. My friends live's in your area and she pay's £75 a set!
I'm lucky with my farrier.Only downside is he's not the best time keeper! But i book him for a day when poppy's in stable all day so i leave money and let him get on with it.I dont need to be there.Had same farrier for years so trust him.

I'm in Berkshire and i pay £60 for re-fits, you're paying for the skilled work, the pieces of metal cost very little.

Warwickshire: £55 a set, £58 with stud holes, I have no idea about refits as never had them & never just had a trim either. No call out charge, I think call out is a bit cheeky really.

I pay £53 for a set - dont bother with Refits - which, after reading the rest of the posts seems to be quite a good price - esp considering we are very limited to farriers where I am as I live on an Island !

Are they remedial shoes?! I am in Surrey too and I was paying £68 for a full set with 8 stud holes! Last farrier was £50 a set also in Surrey. Both very good farriers!

Who do you use?

No not remedial as such... the last farrier they had really did a shitty job and botched his feet a bit, so he has just put slightly too wide shoes on the front to encourage them to be less upright!

I dont know who it is as its only a horse I share, so dont have a say in who shoes him to be fair!

After this farrier has done him a few time apparently he can have one of his lower farrier's (whatever that is) and it will only cost £65... well thats ok then!!

i paid last week £40 for 2 front shoes and 2 back feet trimmed and a trim for my other horse... i know my farrier charges other people more.... but i make great tea!!

Oxfordshire... costs me £75 a set with stud holes... very expensive going by this post but he is fab and reliable and will come and sort out problems for free... oh and my mare can go 9/10 weeks between changes
