So we moved yards about a month ago and since then the pone has pulled the same front shoe off 3 times. It is coming off cleanly and not ripping any hoof wall but I'm getting really frustrated with it. So a bit of background:
7 yo 14.2hh nf x appy only shod in front. Living out at the moment on a hilly field with some exposed granite (edge of moor) and some undergrowth areas with brambley bits. I've had him since April and he did pull a shoe off at old yard but can't remember which one. His old owner says he is footy without shoes on the front. He sees the farrier every 5-6 weeks and has 1 feed a day which includes:
Unmollased straw chaff
Speedibeet
Micronized linseed
Low cal balancer
Salt
Magnesium oxide
Brewers yeast

Is there anything I can do to keep his shoes on?! Or alternatively I could take him barefoot, although I don't know how to go about this. I could get hoof boots but have no idea which are good and how to measure for them! Any help would be much appreciated! Ideally I would like to keep him in light work this winter but with only one shoe this is going to be difficult.

Have you tried him without shoes? Some horses are fine and others aren't. Ask your farrier if he thinks the horse will be okay. (Our farrier is excellent and will always say if he thinks a horse can do without shoes based on the work/feet, though can take time to adapt if he has been shod for ages). And no I am not a 'barefoot person' as such, - I always kept my TBs barefoot if I could to save money long before 'barefoot' became the thing.
Plenty of people will give advice on types of hoof boots they use if you go this route.
Alternatively, try overreach boots in teh paddock - the youngster here has those as she rips off front shoe while hooning and sliding stops (yes always the same shoe).
You also might want to check the different levels and ratios of minerals in the diet you are giving.
