Am now at my wits end! My horse ALWAYS pulls at least one shoe off each time he's shod, he only wears fronts as he gets very footy on hard ground otherwise.

He's turned out with overreach boots which seem to make no difference. The last time he was shod, the farrier put them on a bit tighter and fitted a slightly smaller shoe. Now, ONE single week later, he's pulled one off :(

How can I keep his shoes on?

Going without isn't an option and I don't really want to change farrier as he does my other 4 no problems and he does a fantastic job with my mares remedial shoeing.

Just an idea: I had a chiropractor out to treat my boy who used to pull off a front shoe every fortnight on average. I don't know what she did, but after one treatment he didn't pull off another shoe for about five years.

May not work for you, but maybe worth a try.

I had a horse prone to this, and everytime he pulled a shoe he lost a bit of foot so making it harder for my farrier. I always put o/r boots on him, but one day I saw that he was actually treading on the side of his foot, which is not protected by the boot. So my farrier fitted him with racing shoes fitted flush to the foot, so nothing for him to stand on. He never lost a shoe again!

One of mine always pulls both fronts off within 3 weeks, farrier is very good and comes out to refit free without a quibble (think its build into my price really). Last shoeing I finally got around to getting filler put in the two fronts and he hasn't pulled a shoe this time - I am delighted as this wasn't the reason the filler was put in. Its www.vettec.com that do the filler. Just a thought and it was only a little extra for the two front hooves.
