shoeing costs

my farrier has put up his prices again!! how much do people pay for a full set with one stud hole in each? just trying to compare. i dont really want to make a change as he s been shoeing our horses for years but it all adds up when ive got 3 or 4 to shoe.

ooh im def thinking i should change! he s put price up to 79 quid with stud holes. 73 without. i thought it was pretty expensive.

i know! if it was one horse i wud prob stick with him as he s very good but with a few to shoe it makes it really costly. any recommendations in the cheshire area?

Full set with studs in cheshire should be around £65 unless your using The Hanleys, or Ian Hughes.. then your talking 80 quid.

im just about to go to have my horse done hes £78 without stud holes and £82 with (does have 2 road nails in each shoe as well tho)

Just paid £50 for full re-shoe, also my farrier doesn't charge if they loose a shoe - which to be honest is very rare occurence with my mare

£100???!!! I live in London so I thought mine would be the most expensive. I pay less than that for two horses!!!

I'm in the north west, 60 for full 40 for two, not sure about stud holes. That seems to be the normal price round here.

A word of caution before you go shopping for a new farrier based purely on price. A "cheap" farrier is going to have to shoe far more horses in a day to make a reasonable living than one who charges a bit more but can take the time to do a thorough job. Spending a little more with your farrier now may prevent you from having to spend a fortune with your vet. Personally, I would far rather use a farrier that, by charging a little more, can afford to take time to assess the horses needs and balance the foot correctly rather than crashing and banging shoes on in a hurry to get to the next horse.

completely agree with you sally. its really difficult, esp as none of the horses have had any problems. just im sure there are plenty of quality farriers about which are a tad less expensive.suppose im lucky not to be paying 100+vat!!

I'm paying £70 for a full set with a stud hole in each, £5 less for no holes.

I agree totally about not changing for the price alone. If you can find one with a good reputation who's cheaper, and can take on new clients, good luck!
