Shoeing evangelism?

Thanks SMID
You may think there is no correct answer but that it varies case to case but the feeling I get from some of these posts is that not everyone is as openminded.

On the one side you have barefoot supporters who claim that barefoot is the only way; on the other a whole raft of farriers, vets, physios and others telling me horror stories of cases they've come across and while barefoot is good for some horses not for him.

I did look at Rockley Farm a while back and my horse would be suitable but I would be looking at sending him to the other side of the country for at least 3 months probably nearer 6.

Whatever the intention behind this thread it's not made this more likely to happen.

Cisco -I think you have to step back from the emotion and strong opinions expressed here and decide what is best for you and your horse. That's what I would do.

There will be inevitable emotion over challenges to anything like shoeing which has been accepted practice for many years - and each group has their own motives for following the paths they do. But if there was a possibility of getting a good result for my horse - I know what I would do.

Maybe you should call Nic and discuss it with her - there is a lot that you can do just on your own to rehabilitate without sending your horse away, and there may be environmental measures you can take to help rehabilitate at little cost.

My loyalties lie with my horses - I will do what I believe to be best for them - and have no hesitation in doing it. I'm a pragmatist, not a dogmatist - and I think every responsible horse owner has to be.

I did email Rockley which is where I got to the option of sending my horse away for between 3 and 6 months to complete strangers - apparently nothing in my area.
I have moved yards recently and am much happier with my new farrier than the old one so for the moment we will stick with shoes but I will keep my options open and an eye on developments.
