It is a bit of a nightmare...:o

He's been having the Pro Hoof supplement and micronised linseed religiously and it does seem to be making a difference... Plus he's got nearly a year of good husbandry under his belt now... Fingers and toes are crossed...

Something I don't think was mentioned before about horn quality and strength is stimulation. The horn in a bare hoof is constantly worn and stimulates the horn producing cells to increase growth and quality to keep up.

Thanks Amanda... I think he's a good 'un and seems to be more concerned with the horse than a few quid or me... Only discovered today he'd apprenticed Grant Moon before he got his international titles and he's going to give my OH a 'lesson' in safely removing a shoe next time he comes out so he won't be left with one hanging off... Can't fault his attitude really and I think the bit you mention about the stimulation is where he's coming from now... No idea if it'll last long term but at least he's trying I guess... :)
