Shoeing options for arthritic hocks? Pads or composite shoes?

Currently looking at what the best shoeing options would be be for gelding with hock arthritis (not terrible but definitely could do with a bit of support during winter).

Do you guys have any experience with pads on hinds for concussion or composite shoes? I really like the look of Duplo but does anyone have any experience with them? Price and wear specifically. Does my farrier need to be trained on them specifically or would they be able to fit them if I requested?

You would have to ask your farrier about duplos. Someone at my yard used them on their arthritic gelding, got two shoeings out of each one but said they were a little slippery. Pads don't make a huge difference in my experience and also tend to not be great for long term use, very easy to get swampy feet particularly in winter. I've only ever used them for sole protection and only for one shoeing cycle at a time.
I have mine barefoot to reduce concussion instead, and boot to ride on hard surfaces but that may not work if he needs a particular foot balance that isn't conducive with his hoof wear over winter.
