If your horse has shoes on, should there be any gaps between the sole and the shoe? ie if you looked in the gap between you can see the nail going up through the shoe into hoof wall.

Hopefully the above makes sence? I think I know the answer but want to be sure.

Thanks x

That's what I thought. Horse had farrier today and is now lame! I wasn't there when he was done. Upon inspecting his lame foot, there is a rather large gap as described above. I'm not impressed as meant to be competing at weekend! Thankfully he coming back out but I'm really not happy!!

Id get back onto your Farrier asap to get him back out to fix and you maybe sound by the weekend (depending on the problem) . Does he not hot shoe ? Its difficult not to be cross and upset your Farrier as most areas the farriers have you over a barrel as its difficult to get another one and you have to treat them with kid gloves . The sad thing is that they often can afford to drop you as most have a waiting list so you are quickly replaced. If you have a problem , he wont come out etcetc , document everything , phonecalls etc and report him to Worshipful Company of Farriers .
Fingers crossed its just an innocent accident and he'll sort out asap for you.
