Anyone else finding they just can't keep front shoes on.

Our weekly farrier list has read
Buster - replace front
Charlie - replace front
Maple - replace front, stud holes
Coco - replace front, road nails

etc etc

for the last three weeks. I seem to spend my whole life catching ponies in, getting halfways down the drive and having to take them back to the field cos they only have 3 shoes on. My collegue had a front shoe replaced on Thursday, lost the other on Friday, had it rFriday evening (emergancy call out to helpful farrier), went to catch in Sunday and her horse had no shoes at all on in front

I think it is the ground which is like a boggy glue at the moment. Anyone else having the same problem?

our yard is having that problem, pickle has fab feet and has only lost a shoe once in 3 years, even he had a loose front last week which says something!

Do you put over reach boots on the horses that continually lose shoes?

My horse only loses shoes over winter when the ground is poached in areas. Farrier said it's not the ground pulling the shoes off. The ground just holds their feet in the stride that bit longer giving the back feet chance to come through and step on the back of the front feet shoes.

I put over reach boots on her, when the ground starts to become muddy, and it has never happened since.

Good idea about the over reach boots. At the moment it seems to be this pony, then that pony then the next pony rather than one pony loosing shoes time after time but I'll def bear that in mind if a pony starts to develop a patern for losing shoes

We haven't had that problem. We used to, changed farriers and we have only lost one shoe from 7 ponies over the year.

I read it that the OP has to go down the road to catch ponies, not that she's riding them before she notices

You say you get down the road to find he's missing a shoe, don't you pick out and check his legs and feet before riding him?

[groans] here they come, the horse and hound 'are you doing it right' police. I might have guessed.

Actually, we have to lead our ponies down the road from the field to the yard. BEFORE we pick their feet out and check their legs and groom them and tack them up etc etc etc

thank you very much
