Some of you may know about the trauma with my boy and his frog feet.
After 6months of being set back by farrier after farrier I had his shoes removed 5weeks ago as one last chance, and have turned him away until September.

Here are his feet ontop 5weeks ago after shoes came off, and below about 4days ago, so five weeks out of shoes (and in old mac boots). Thoughts?

I'm prepared for all the negative comments but would prefer if you kept them to yourself if they border offensive. And I'm not trying to cause a barefoot/shod debate, I simply have my boys beat interests at heart, I love him to pieces, idolise him and I'm gunning for him to come sound...

Some really positive improvements there - I'd be very happy with that at 5 weeks iiwy :).

The heels are decontracting and the back of the foot is really starting to develop. Also looks like the foot is rebalancing itself nicely. Of course they were very sick to start with, so be prepared to settle in for the long haul... But you're definitely heading in the right direction.

Well done you - keep up the good work! :)

I'm in tears here... It's so silly, but you have no idea how overwhelmed I am at your post. I want my boy back :'( thankyou for kind words.

Good Luck with your boy.

It is two and a half weeks since I took my girls shoes off and she is walking down the road and into the woods , which are gravel hard forestry tracks and is sound. The look on her face and the softness of her eyes shows to me I did the right thing.

Keep us all informed. It is nice to hear about those that are going barefoot.

Thankyou :) sounds like it's been a smooth transition for you! I wish my boy was the same. He's still lame at the moment but, I hope we will get there...

Good luck, I had my cob's shoes removed last July and he has struggled over stoney ground so have given in and had boots to take him out in and so far so good. He has always been sound on the field and the flat from the word go but was so unsound on stones that he stumbled and fell twice so had to revert to boots.

I know how you feel, many of us barefooters have been where you are - its a tough uphill battle, and there will be times you feel like you're going backwards. Keep focused on the endgame - if you carry on the way you are then in 8 months time you won't recognise your horse's hooves :).

And if you hit a rough patch there are plenty of us on here who are happy to try and help. Good luck!

My girl is only sound in walk at the moment although each day she seems better. I am only walking her inhand and will do for the next week or two, but increasing the distance.Once we are walking out for a couple of miles I wil pony her from one of my others. I am happy to spend a long time just walking her ,for miles if that is what it takes.

I also think her problem could be that she has learnt to walk stiffly from her shoulder so will be getting my Equine Osteopath to come and see her.
