Had my horsey just coming up for 6 months now...
She came with feet that were badly needing shod & out of balance & the first trim pretty much took care of that.

She's been on monthly reshoeing since then & is fed Biotin.
I spent 2 months applying NAF hoof moist & the farrier said it was making it worse, so then started using cornucresine - again he said it was making things worse.

Last time she was shod the shoe only stayed flush to the hoof for 2 weeks & had to wait a week for the farrier as couldn't ride on a twisted shoe...

This time, the shoe's already lost a nail after only a week

What can I do? She's only shod in front but STILL it's very expensive!

Also, the farrier is the best in my area.

HELP?

Iodine and Eucalyptus Oil will help harden her feet. I would also keep over reach boots on her wehn turned out or being ridden to stop her twisting/pulling the shoe by treading on it.

If its the quality of the actual horn or speed of growth that's the problem then you may need to consider supplementation. Hay was very bad quality last year and I have heard of a lot of horses having foot problems at the mo due to nutritional deficiencies (despite being on balancers etc).Or has she white line disease, seedy toe, thrush etc? all things that will badly affect her feet but which farriers often don't think to mention to owners. I recently tried a foot supplement that worked wonders for my horses feet but it was specifically made up for him by a nurtitionalist (Trinity consultants) taking into account his specific problems - so you would need to know the actual problem with the feet before thinking of that route. Or there are other off the shelf supplements such as fariers formula, formula for feet etc which I have heard are good. Treatment for white line disease etc will vary between farrier as they all have their different preferences so I would ask him - what is specifically wrong,a nd what you can do to help.

Limestone is good. I know a horse who was constantly loosing shoes (Despite having overreach boots on) and the farrier was coming up once or twice a week. Once every 2 weeks if the owner was lucky. Farrier reccomended Limestone powder (its only a few pounds to buy a tub that lasts ages) and 6 weeks later no lost shoes and the farrier commented on how much harer it was to get the horses shoe off!
Hope this helps.
