Farrier was out to the baby today. Not impressed. Said his shoes were two sizes too small! And this could possibly be why he failed the vet( shoes went on two days before vetting)..Hmmph. Not amused!
have a cob who is a livery of mine who, bless him, has spent the last 4 years of his life in shoes that were 3/4 inch too small with very tall heels...since he has received remedial farriery over the last 3 months, in conjunction with Bowen Therapy, he can now ACTUALLY walk, trot, canter and jump painfree!!!
Yes, our current farrier seems to be working well, shoes for a well respected eventer, good with the horses and good timekeeping-a saint!
The one who put these shoes on was a temporary measure between old and new farrier, and current farrier reckons there will be no lasting damage, two sizes though..sister says there was an inch of difference, its hard finding one that is decent.
Well..said baby is 16hh 6yr old , but the baby of the yard!
Thanks, flad to hear we're not the only one who this has happened to!
My horse came to me with shoes 2 or 3 sizes too small. She'd been so badly shod, and they'd been like that for at least 8 weeks, that it took 8 months of her being trimmed and shoeless before her feet became their proper shape, and one of her back feet will never be quite right
My farrier was horrified by the state of her feet, and I've been lucky he's had the patience and foresight to correct them slowly.
