shooting of in the wrong direction when lunging

poppy stop turns and runs the other way when lunging is there a way to stop this, i have heard of people using the lunge line like puttin round there head and back over or something can anyone help? hope you kno what i mean
 
Have you tried long reining instead? That way you have a lunge line on both sides of the bit to help with directions etc..??

I would say the simplest thing would be to keep her going forward so she cant stop?

Sorry if that sounds obvious, but if the horsse is going forward it is going to find it harder to stop - try to be a bit sharper, and when you think she is going to stop, push her forward into canter.
 
if youre lunging her to the left-take your lunge line and put it through the left handside bit ring then run it over the top of her head behind the ears and down over the other side-attach the lunge line to the bit ring. When you change the rein change the lunge line . You will have more control over her this way

. While lunging her stand slightly behind the level of her shoulder and keep the lunge whip low and behind her, use it to drive her on and use your voice too! If this doesnt help maybe you need to have someone with more experience to help you sort out Poppy's lunging. Hope it works for you. Mairi.

well, this is what i'd do:
start lunging her in smallish circles, and, as long as she's not a kicker, stay level with her bum so you're driving her forward. i'd use voice more than lunge whip, if possible. you need to be very quick to step further behind her if she tries to whip round (in my experience they always do it towards you, not away), so be ready to step behind her as she spins, and send her on again.
if she only wants to lunge to the left, and tries to avoid going on the right rein (which is what most do, as they're used to being handled from the left and are often suspicious of having people on their right) then i'd start off on the right rein. be happy with about 10 walk circles if she does them without a problem. lots of praise, change reins. same on the left rein. lots of praise, change back. walk again, then maybe send on in trot for a bit... again, staying in a driving position until she gets the idea. then the same on the other rein.
if she persists in being naughty, find someone experienced and patient to iron out this little problem for you!

also make use of the corners of the school to provide two fencelines and then strategicly place a few sjumps across the arena to form a 'pen' - the jumps don't have to make a complete line - but be close enough together to look like a barrier

if you can't manage two lines then borrow a pessoa to simulate two lunge lines and lunge off the bridle as advised above

also make sure - obvious I know - that if she does pull out on the lunge that you have gloves on
