Well, we were supposed to be going down south shooting today, but my uncle had to take my cousin to look round secondary schools so we just went down the road so Tina got to come too

We are going to fully retire her at the end of the season.

TBH, nothing very exciting to report! We got one pigeon. Yes, one

Wind kept picking up and dying down, pigeons weren't flying well, also we think two fellas already in a field nearby may have been shooting when they came out of roost and hence spooked them so they weren't coming back to roost. (You should be there to shoot them when they come back to roost, not when leaving)

I did get to practise my shooting though

Was shooting some dead bark my uncle hung up and had a shot at one pigeon and just missed it, so quite pleased

Getting closer!

The pigeon we did shoot, sent Tina in to get it and she hunted around, got the smell of something but couldn't find it. We kept Midget on the lead as she breaks after Tina and won't listen. So when Tina couldn't find the bird sent Cindy out as she has a good nose. She worked what we though was too far away and we called her back, but she kept going into the woods. Next thing she re-appeared with pigeon in her mouth

So very pleased with her, gave lots of praise.

Gave up about 2:30 (we arrived at 12) as we saw just a handful of birds, not the flocks that normally come over.

To make matters worse, spoke to our friend who did go down south. 130 pigeons.

He said he couldn't load his gun quick enough! Fingers crossed we get down there next week. Uncle said using decoys will be easier for me to shoot due to the way the pigeons glide in, whereas today they were either high birds or too bloody fast for it to be even worth trying!

Some pics of the girls

Darn. I didn't get to bug you for a report!

Sounds like a preductive day even if just the 1 bird. WIll of done Midget the world of good to go out but not do anything. Poor Tina though she deserved the bird just for being Tina!

But clever Cindy dog! Pah us mere mortals never know better than our dogs!! (Something I must learn!).

You do realise we want more now! From your next report (down south) plus seeing as you have taken pics we want at least the same amount if not more next time! |Don't care if to many birds coming in! LOL!...

Mwahahah I'm too quick for you k9h

I know, poor Tina we kept sending her in as we were sure that's where the bird had landed and she kept trying. Sure well pleased with Midget, she is such a good dog just a few issues to iron out

Crap, would ones from the end count?

Ohhh and I have loads of pictures of our old Windsor that I have found

Now, he was a dog! I need to scan them all in though so it will be tomorrow night.

TripleSandH - we shoot for two reasons, we enjoy it and we use every bird that is shot. Not a single one goes to waste. We also shoot pheasant, rabbit, woodcock (if we can get it!) and duck.

Hey - you did some shooting - well done!! Its always a bit disappointing if the game isn't there - but nevermind, nice to be out.

Fab pics and dogs look gorgeous as always.

Thank you Ravenwood

We are going to trade in one of my uncles Italian side by sides to get a wee 20 bore for me as he says it will be much smaller and lighter for me to handle. He brought the automatic so I could try a few shots as it doesn't have the same recoil as his other guns

I don't shoot very much at all anymore (if ever!) but I used to use a fantastic Spanish 20 bore that belonged to my shooting instructor (that sounds very posh, he is a friend of ours!) and I love it. My OH is very tall so has 31 inch barrel 12 bore and its far too long and heavy for me to use!

Good luck with the shooting - its great if you get into it!
