Finally, I think this is my first of the season?
I'll start with Saturday. Now, I wasn't there as I was working so this is secondhand
A certain Miss Tinadog whined until she was allowed to go! Silly old girl doesn't realise her age
So off they went to Dundalk. Pigeons flew and decoyed well. They came away with 68 in the bag. Tina worked like the old pro she is along with help from a certain little blonde
Tina was sore this morning but still in fab form. Going to start her on a joint supplement now as it is clear she has decided she doesn't want to retire
Now onto today. You are allowed to shoot on a Sunday in ROI and as the pigeons were plentiful yesterday (in their 1000s) we decided to try our luck again today. Should have left it at yesterday though
Bit of a disaster!
Left at 8am after packing up the Disco and Midget and off we went. We saw lots down in a stubble field, but we couldn't get to it due to flooding
So we ended up two fields across. They were flying really well over us, but too high to shoot. At this point we were only looking two to put on the magnet. Finally got one after a looooong wait and headed to set up. Midget retrieved it well, however she did head before being sent so still too keen
We moved over a different hedge line and set up the hide. Only had one pigeon so couldn't use the magnet, so set up the 'kite' (no idea of proper name
)
And waited...
And waited...
And waited...
We then got a flock flew in and they decoyed well using the kite. We were shocked at how quickly they came in! M was spoilt for choice and got one from that flock so we got the magnet going. Wind wouldn't keep up for the kite. The pigeon fell a good bit out so I took the Midget down to get it. Perfect water retrieval
At this point the pigeons seemed to just disappear! There had been hundreds and then nothing! Any that were flying were flying up the river so too far and too high. Any that did fly past weren't decoying at all
So not quite sure what went on.
We got one more (a woundie but Midget is getting better with retrieving these and not spitting them out!) and decided to call it a day. Typically as we packed up, didn't lots of pigeons come over? We think boys who were out shooting pheasants put them up though as they weren't consistent.
Pleased with how Midget went and it was a beautiful day to just sit out so we weren't too disappointed
Sorry, no pictures as my battery died!
