Did 4 drives in the morning, Garage field, Bosworgey, 20 acre and Windmill. Partridges flew exceptionally well

Dad and his two underkeepers Chris and Matt were chuffed to bits. Wasn't a sold day was only syndicate. My dogs were absolute diamonds today

so proud of them!! Ellie (black and white spaniel) did her usual 'showing up of the labs' and had an amazing retreive out of the thickest brambles ever!!

Extra proud moment as my bramble/cover shy lab Kensa also had a good mooch around in there with her, which is big progress as she hates them!! So even tho she came back empty mouthed i was still happy!!

Big cuddles and kisses for her!!

Afternoon we did 3 drives over at Bedruthan Steps, again birds flew really well!!

I'm not totally sure of the final bag for the day as i had to rush off (babysitting for Kibob tonight). Had a couple of new beaters start today, seems as though they thoroughly enjoyed it and will hopefully be there to enjoy the season.

So overall a great day, sun was shining and i spent the day with my dogs ... who could ask for more!! Anyone else had a good day???

Ah ... wine and cookies for whoever made it this far!!

Too early for us yet, pheasants start next month but OH is in the midlands this weekend doing a bit of pigeon shooting. He's rung to say that whilst the new dog (who is an eight year old RSPCA Springer) is keen as mustard, he has conveniently forgotten recall! Ah well, if he flushes every pleasant within a two mile radius of the shoot in the first hour they will have more time in the pub (not that they need encouraging!).

I had a lovely day today too!

We had a novice team of guns whose loaders were also instructors......hence the beaters all wore fluorescent jackets and caps !! (just to be on the safe side!!)

The first drive was superb, the second not too bad, then back to the yard for soup (tomato today (yuck!)). Off for another couple of drives to finish and back for lunch. I love it when we shoot through, we were finished by 3pm!

Both dogs were very good and Flyn has started to present to hand again (well some of the time anyway!!!). There was a slightly embarrassing moment when Toby ran forward in front of the guns to get a runner on the bank, but you have to get onto these partridge really quick.

It was a beautiful sunny day, on one drive the shoot owner walked past me and asked if I was alright - I told him that, actually I would like a sun lounger and a glass of pimms!!

I think it was a 300 bird day but I don't know what the final tally was.

Unfortunately Flyn is a bit lame on his front leg this evening, I can't see anything so am hoping he will be fine tomorrow!
