I have recently changed my old pony over to the local tack shops own brand horse mix as I really need to save my pennies!

However, I feel really guilty because she isnt having a "brand" feed and worry that she may need the vit/mins that perhaps an expensive brand offers.

Does anyone else feed a shops own brand feed and how are your horses on them?

I feed 2 of mine shop brands and neither get the recommended dosage either as one is a good doer and one does no work. However all of mine are on a multivitamin supplement and have loads of hay / haylage. I stock up on supplements whenever I see any deals. :) Both of them look very well.

How is she looking? If she looks ok then there is no need to worry, but if she isn't looking so good she may need a vit and min supplement in which case you need to think about whether you are actually saving any money.

She gets Pink Powder through the winter anyway just because she needs a little help in the cold weather. She looks ok too and has even put on a little weight. One thing I am concerned about, (and will finish bag to be sure) was how spooky she was on our way home from our last hack!

My Feed Merchants own brand is made for them by one of the top branded companies. Product is just as good and as for the spookiness, I would suggest your horse is just feeling good. Mine is like that at the moment, especially when shes had a clip.
