Hi,

So I need a feed, something that will aid the development of topline (yes - I know you can't just feed to get it without correct work, but want something that might help)

It needs to be a nut/cube that doesn't need to be soaked. The horse likes nuts best and can be a picky eater.

It also needs to be molasses free, as horse has had ulcers.

Doesn't need to be a complete feed.

I have looked at Castle Smart Balancer which I like the look of, but no stockists in my area so would have to order directly from their website.

Amyone know of any others that might be suitable?

Hmmm, I like a feeding challenge!

Off the top of my head, Pure Feeds and Simple Systems are molasses free. I am pretty sure you would have to add water to both but not really soak overnight or anything. I am not sure Pure Feeds do cubes though.

Have you had a look at Dengie grass nuts?

There is nothing you can feed to create or aid in topline, unless your horse is deficient in amino acids, which would be unusual although not unheard of. I'd feed a decent mineral balancer, equimins advance complete comes in a pelleted format. Its far superior to the castle one and should provide anything that's missing. There was a noticeable difference in her coat and hooves when I put mine on it.

Id also add salt, a mug of linseed and potentially vitamin e if your horse is on a restricted diet or has limited access to green grass.

I think you might struggle to find a molasses-free nut, as that tends to be what they use to stick them together. My old boy is on Baileys Ease and Excel cubes, which tick a lot of your boxes - they do contain molasses though. He look brilliant for an older high mileage horse, and thinks thy are delicious!

Already feeding grass chaff, so wouldn't really benefit to add grass nuts too.

Thanks for the suggestions, will have a look!

Hmm yes possibly! Be interested to know just how much molasses they add. I'd settle for a tiny bit to bind the ingredients, but not loads like you'd get in chaff

Yes, I feed Pure Feeds and all my beasts are thriving on it. They do a pelleted balancer, which is the base for all of their mixed feeds. Highly recommend.
