Hi all

I'm seriously considering splashing out on one of these to tide me over the seemingly never-ending times when one or the other of my horses are without a saddle.

I think I'd like to buy the Iberica (?) Model as i like the support in front - we have mega hills around here. Is it worth the extra money?

I was wondering what else i need to buy to be able to use it?

I used the premium plus for the last few months whilst I was having saddle fit problems. I'm not sure on the exact difference of the support from the Iberica as it also has front and back supports but I found the support it gave was good. I felt fine in it jumping up and down banks, small ditches and canter work out hacking and general schooling.

You need a dressage girth and I used a hunting breastplate with mine. I also bought some of their shampoo to wash it with.
 
Mine is the basic model and I would think you will be much better with knee rolls etc. Our first prolonged steep down hill was a bit scary lol.

If you haven't already got a girth have a look at professional choice ventech as I think these would have helped with stability. I also used a breastplate and a grippy numnah (but not their own numnah).
 
Thank you both. Good to hear your experiences. Think I'll buy their girth as my sensitive mare will like the sheepskin , but from your experiences, I don't need to buy their saddlecloth too?
 
I'm not sure the sheep skin girth will be that stable that's why I mentioned the ventech. They are ultra soft neoprene and the only girth in the world (inc sheepskin) which hasn't rubbed my sensitive flower.

Yes I used it with stirrups and rode every day in it for 6 months for an hour plus per day with no issues at all.
 
I'm looking at getting one for my very short backed cob who is hard to fit to. Sorry to hijack the thread but is it very stable/secure? Pony has a tendency to buck when excited so want to be as secure as possible!
 
I have ridden a few times in mine with a spooky horse, you have to be really balanced , not sure I would want to ride alot in it tbh.

If you have a reasonably decent seat then you might want to look at a Total Contact - I find it very comfy and have sat to bucks, bolts and leaps on strange horses that are new to me as well as a few unexpected leaps from my newly started youngster, all in my first few rides, and never felt unsafe or vulnerable. It is better with a sticky gel under it but you get so much more feedback than a normal saddle so you almost pre-empt bucks etc.

I've got the Premium Plus and its pretty secure. I always feel held in by it a bit. I only do walk work in mine, but my younger skinnier friend canters and jumps with no issues :)
 
I have the premium plus with one of the Christ shaped girths, it hasn't slipped yet I'm pleased to say. I've used it with stirrups with no problems but I usually don't bother as part of what I love about it is the freedom :D
 
Thanks Ffionwinnie. That's great advice. I ride her in stubben neoprene girth now as that's just about the only girth she's happy in.
 
Hopefully not tempting fate but I've found it secure. We had a 180 degree spin thanks to a deer bouncing up in front of us that had me well over J's shoulder and the pad didn't move. I use it with stirrups but don't weight them in trot/faster work. If nothing else my core strength has improved.
