I am visiting London next month and I was wondering which tack shop is the best to visit? Ingatestone saddlery or Robinsons equestrian at Bargingstoke? Do you know which has more variety and better prices?

Both are not in London, I'm sure there would be some big stores closer...Ingatestone is near Chelmsford, about 30 miles north east of London, and Robinsons at Basingstoke is about 45 miles or so south west of London.

Not been to Ingatestone, but Robinsons is a nice big store with lots of stuff in there. I do find it more pricey than our local tack shops for some things eg suppliments feed but good for some of the more unusual things you might want eg we bought a hanging wall filler for about £17 and have a nice selection of books and presents, and they do have a reasonable choice of eg hats, body protectors, boots, rugs all reasonably priced, although quite often they don't seem to actually have what you want - last time we went we couldn't find any XC colours to fit daughter, or a brown or black plain numnah in the right size (suitable for Pony Club with no contrasting trim), the time before leather short boots in her size (6) but maybe we are just trying to buy popular stuff when we go?

I've never had this issue with Eileen Douglas in Wokingham (30 miles west of London), although a much smaller shop and with less of a range of clothing there's always stuff to poke about amongst and find something you didn't realise you really needed - Robinsons is too neatly and clinically laid out. I have never managed to leave ED empty handed (well I did once when I paid for my feed and forgot to get it from the warehouse until I was waiting outside school and remembered I'd driven off without it...), but despite having to travel almost 20 miles to Robinsons I have left without buying anything on more than one occasion.

Thank's to the Icelandic volcano last Easter, I had an extra week in the UK and managed to spend a whole lot of money in http://www.college-farm.co.uk/. Easy reach of tube and bus from London and although it is relatively small, it had lots of offers. I got lots of things which I paid less than half price for. They were also open to bartering on the sale items if you buy enough.

Ingatestone is cheap! It is very dangerous in there and they have trolleys :) The cafe there is good also! You could definitely spend a day in there, enjoy!

Ingatestone is very good :) if you google it they have a website too.

Agree with Lockpearl though, very dangerous place to go hehe :o

Is college farm what used to be the old express dairy?
