Hi HHO's!!

Please can you offer some experience and advice?

A friend of mine is looking to buy a youngster. We viewed one yesterday and he was a lovely type (and pretty much exactly what she’s looking for)
, and has been backed for approx 3-4 months.

He is for sale through a stud farm who have had him 3 weeks now.

When he was on the lunge, I noticed that his offside hind was stepping through very short. He also really struggled with Canter and continually went dis united.

When he was off he lunge and ridden, he was the same, and he continued to go disunited in canter and was short behind.

When he stood still, he would rest the same hind leg. Apparently he has done this for the 3 weeks that he’s been with the stud.

Now, my friend really likes him and is still interested, but I am seriously concerned about this, and wondered if you guys have ever come across this, and what is could possibly be?! She would obviously get a 5*vetting, but I don't want her to waste her money if it's something that'll never come right.

Any opinions??

Walk away. My boy went short behind and disunited in canter. Just ended up with a £4000 vet bill ( he is insured) as he has torn his meniscus in his stifle. No idea how it happened, probably messing around in the field.

He has not been given a good prognosis.

Walk away, they should know better than be trying to sell a lame horse, it is not worth the cost of vetting when you know there is an issue he will fail on.
If the yard are prepared to investigate and treat the problem it may be worth keeping in touch in case it is something minor.

I do totally agree and have said that she really should be walking away, but she's said that if it's something of nothing, then she'll regret it if she didn't get it checked out.

I wanted to see what you guys said. I can't honestly see it being a simple problem as he's had it for the at least 3 weeks (probably more), but someone on here may just disagree?!

I appreciate all of your responses and thoughts!!

110% walk away the fact they are showing u a lame horse for sale to me rings alarm bells, they most likely hope you did not notice.

No way would I buy this or even waste any more of my time - plenty of nice horses that not lame out there
