Apart from Amerigo does anyone know of anywhere (preferebly online) that sells short event girths. Also I have one short event girth (but not stud girth) which is 26" is that likely to fit a slightly portly TB?

think it is comfortzoneequestrian.co.uk....

well i would advise against what i bought..a a jaguar..lovely lovely girth but seems the wrong shape and causes really bad rub marks and gives her a sore tummy:(

just be aware that unless a short girth is just the right length, the buckles can catch the elbows = unhappy horse.

In that case...shorter is better?

(dont know if his is general or aimed at me) sorry!
, it is definatly the right length i have checked and re checked but i think it is just the design of them, i have heard a lot of other people have the same problem with them.

umm, shorter isn't necessarily better, it depends on the length of the flaps, girth straps, etc. trial and error i think... attach a girth at exactly the right height on the offside, then measure to the correct height on the nearside, i guess. then allow a good few inches for tightening.
this is why i don't use short girths any more, even on dressage saddles. plus, i can't stand leaning right over to tighten it or try to tuck in the ends!

i probs went wrong i thought i wd save money as the wows were so expensive and bought my jaguar for £75, and it doesnt fit well! although i have also said they are not very happy with the quality of the wows, my friends keepers have all broken off, amongst other things.

i think its happned after a matter of months , so dont know where she would stand, the shape seems to be quite good and not rub them though:)and i do like the look of them

re: How do you not use short girths on dressage saddles or single flaps?

i've never had a single flap saddle, but i have no probs using normal girths on my dressage saddles.
i went to Germany for a 3 star in '99 and managed to forget my short dressage girth... couldn't find one in any of the tack shops there (when i said the length, they all laughed and asked if it was for a pony!), as they were all using long girths with dressage saddles. as i'm usually on my own and hate having to rely on someone to tuck the ends in, it got me thinking. plus, my (German) dressage trainer hates short girths (cos of the buckles knocking the elbows thing) so it was just a case of getting my saddler to shorten the straps.
i use a Kay Humphries fabric girth (lovely and comfy, about £12) or a stubben string girth (ditto for comfort), both flat and not bulky, or sometimes an ultra-padded leather girth, on a sensitive horse. i've got long legs anyway and don't notice the difference tbh.

I don't get the sore elbows thing - surely this would only happen if you use a girth that is too short, and then the girth straps would have to be everso long

This is my girth, I ride with it on 7 or 8 either side - nowhere near the elbow in my eye...

Weezy, that's a lovely looking saddle (a wow is on my list for my new horse) and the girth looks the right length (i think you're right, only a very short one would catch the elbows), but, ummm, isn't that numnah a bit short? sorry! it's one of my pet hates, that's all.

Was chatting to Wychanger Barton saddlery with SC and they said they do not rate the comfort zones at all because if you do stud really badly they disintegrate even with the kevlar protection. They said they were not going to stock them anymore and would always recommend leather. I thought it was interesting as we were particularly looking at the CZ ones because they are lighter.

I have 3 short girths - prestige one is lovely, wintec which is ok but horse gets very sweaty under it and a black rhinegold leather one. I would always choose leather now. I have a thin skinned TB and he has never been rubbed by short girth but I have to have fairly long ones or he gets very moody about having them done up.

Ok here's my long list

Professional choice - great for non slip
Albion stud girth - works well
AWA short gel girth, currenly use for exercise good, but can sometimes be a bit loose
Neoprene - Keiffer look a like from Lidl; hate it. Elastic one sided
Shires Blenheim normal short girth - tongue of the buckle too fat to fit in wow girth holes

Other makes if you are looking for a stud guard specifically
Stephens - £85 on eBay- only comes in Chestnut
Prestige - nice girths
Jaguar
Keiffer
Amerigo
Kate Negus
