Short lead ropes.

The thing about using a very long lead or lunge line to lead a horse is if they take off, by the time they've reached the end of the rope they have a head of steam up and there is NO WAY you can hold a galloping horse. A shorter (note: not SHORT) rope means you have time to whip them around if they're intending on doing the ******ing off thing. That's my experience, at least.

I've no idea what the discussion was actually about but I never ever hold a headcollar when leading and it's one thing that I will tell people off for on my yard. Very dangerous! I never lead with lunge reins either, nor short lead ropes. All my lead ropes are 10ft long and do the job perfectly.

Also no idea what the discussion was about but totally agree with this ^^
Also, I never ever lead with a lunge line, only reins or std lead rope.
I always use std lead rope, its long enough to pop round the nose of something & still have something to lead off.
Hate hate the long ropes where horses are tied onto trailers up high but can still graze - I want to chop the ropes up :o

TFF, off back to her cave...........
