Short Mix...what?

Was in the feed shop on Saturday and over heard the lady in front of me order a bag of "short mix" What is this?

I just ask for my feed by brand.

The lady left the shop with a bag of A&P quiet herbal mix.

I am confused??? What is "short mix" and is this just the old school name for a compound feed????

Can anyone shed any light?

I have never heard of this term used within the field of equine nutrition - not on company websites or information packs, nutrition atricles or anything. Who knows!

Ive googled it too. Mystery!!!! The woman in the shop is probably the most miserable person i have ever known so I wont be asking her!!!

In olden days there was not that many horse feeds. Normally just cubes and a mix which was called short mix. Don't know why it was called short mix though.
