Ok so not exactly the correct terminology I'm sure

but does anyone use these shorter shanked types of pelhams? We changed P to one last year for showing as he was starting to get unhappy in the double and he really seemed to like them.

Unfortunately you don't seem to be able to buy them over here, so will have to order one in. Just wondering if anyone else uses them???

Yes I got one for my mare, shes quite small in the mouth and a full size Pelham had far too much leverage for her

I managed to order mine online a good few years back and was about £50

Try Derby House - they generally have a good range of bits.

Do remember though, that a short-shanked curb bit comes into force far quicker than a long shanked bit.

Thanks for the replies guys

I got in contact with a saddler not too far away and she is ordering some in for me, will take a trip up on Saturday to check them out!

Tia - thanks for that, I'll keep it in mind

I modified mine, and covered the curb in that elastic nathe wrap you can put round bits

The normal curb was far too sharp, and the leather and elastic were as useless as it comes! The elasticy covering went jelly like after a while but she could still feel the curb itself through that and worked really well
