My mare has quite short strides, but does open up and lengthen when worked in a faster trot. She under reaches quite a bit, but again, it improves as she does a faster trot. When I last got the back man out, he said she had sore tendons, but even when I did the stretches etc., she didn't seem to lengthen her hind strides very much.

It's only really in trot, as she doesn't do it at all in walk, however she does often gallop around in the field. It also seems to be slightly worse on hard ground, so not sure if she needs to be fully shod (only has shoes on front feet).

Thanks for any help

A horse I look after has short trot strides and when vet came out and xrays done it was found that she has bone spavin in both hocks. Shes had a course of Adequan and is on Synequin for her joints and does seem better. Maybe she does need back shoes on now, theres a horse on my yard who was a bit foot sore in her unshod back feet. How did the back man come to the idea it was sore tendons? Thats interesting. Would really suggest that you would be better to get the vet out and check her out thoroughly.

When he was touching the back of her legs, so her hamstrings, she was really jumpy and in pain. I think it might actually be this again, so may get him back out again.
