I'm looking for saddle thoughts/ recommendations.
I have a new horse, who I will mainly ride western.
He came with English tack, and my intention was to ride him in this whilst looking for a good second hand western- my budget for a new saddle at the moment is around £600-700 and the more research I do, the more it seems as though finding a good western saddle on this budget is going to be on the tight side.
However, it has also become clear that the English saddle he currently has isn't up to much. As a first port of call I am going to have it checked by a saddler, as it is definitely going to need reflocking. However, my suspicion is that is just doesn't really fit.
So I am without a saddle. In approx 6-12 months, I expect to have enough budget to get my much desired western saddle, I should be able to reach to 1000-1500 by then. However, that leaves me stuck for 6-12 months.
On the one hand, I am reluctant to spend out on an English saddle that I don't really want, yet on the other hand, minimum 6 months is a long time to go without a saddle. I don't want to, ideally, spend my full current £600 budget on an English saddle either, as I am going to be working hard to put as much money towards the western as possible.
So my question is- from anyone who has used one- would a Saddle Company Saddle be the best thing to tide me over for six months. From my understanding they are very adjustable, and won't eat too much into my budget. Are they easy enough to sell on? Given the adjustability I would have thought so.
The horse in question has quite a lot of uneveness, and a lot of development to do in terms of topline, so I quite like the idea of being able to regularly tweak the fit as he builds up. It seems like a silver lining of not quite being able to get him the saddle I would like, and at least if he is fit and working once I am ready for the western, changes of shape then are less likely to be an issue.
I could also look at a thorowgood I suppose... I hate riding in English saddles now- the thought of riding in a synthetic is not enticing, but I can't think what would be a much better option at the moment and at least I know it is only shortish term.
Sorry for the rambling- if anyone has got this far through and understood what I am going on about thoughts would be well received. Equally, it is always helpful to get things down on paper so if no one comments I won't be offended!
