Should George have different boots for jumping?

I was wondering if George should be wearing different boots to protect his legs when jumping? He does have a tendency to brush so wears the bog standard WW club boots for riding and lunging with the addition of overreach boots for jumping.

Now we are getting braver and doing a little bit more jumping and even some xc, I wondered if more protection is needed? We are only talking about jumping 2ft 6 max here, but some will be solid xc jumps, and even some paddling in the water! I am afraid my budget is very limited but I don't want to risk his legs, he's far too precious.

Thanks

I like the neoprene sports boots you can get, there secure, easy to bang on, there pretty cheap too, you can pick a pair up for around £20.00 and they do the job, they offer protection and support to both fetlocks, tendons and the suspensory ligaments.

Mine only ever wears over reach boots.

He is on loan, wasn't sent with any boots and the owners don't use them. If we start XC schooling then I will buy some but as we only have light poles at home, I never boot up for that. Also don't boot for hunting - I think he could do more damage being in wet boots that rub all day long than he would from a knock.

Mine as a rule doesn't like boots at all so I just wear overreach on him although I put eskadron tendon boots on for xc although back in the day i never used to. He doesn't seem to like them for showjumping so i don't wear them.

If your horse brushes then stick with the brushing boots. The only thing I don't like is with soem brushing boots, if you're going in water fences then they can tend to get rather soaked and heavy. I stick with boots that don't soak up the water.

No, Archie wears brushing boots all round for every day as he's very close behind, so I think I may as well put them on the front as well. But for SJ he has open fronted tendon boots as otherwise he gets a bit lazy. He has the brushing boots on for XC as hitting a solid fence is a bit different from a SJ pole. I'd say brushing boots are fine.

Personally, I always use tendon boots for jumping, even over small fences.

Last autumn, my mare pecked on landing over a very 'ordinary' spread fence at home and caught the back of her foreleg with her hind shoe. Thank god she was wearing tendon boots, as she caught it so hard the boot was gouged and the top strap was completely ripped off. I hate to think what would have happened had the back of her leg not been adequately protected by her boots.
