The day started badly and just got worse.
Went to play BSJA at keysoe yesterday.
First problem. Driving the lorry from our yard to moulton colledge the accelerator cable froze on full power.

So there i am on contry lane at 6am in pitch black crawling under the lorry to try and free it off. Couldn't do it but managed to get it to moulton (not easy) and hoped it would un-freeze when the engine heat got round it. It did

but now i am short on time so just pulled lad out of stable, plonked his travel gear and and took him round to lorry to load.
Next issue - massive lorry unloading breeze blocks using huge grab 15 feet from lorry. Compressor hissing like you wouldn't believe. Horse throws major wobbly and wont go near the lorry let alon in it. So back to the stable with him and move lorry. Didn't think he would load (not the best loader in the world) but him did

By now its 8.10 so hit all the rush hour traffic. Journey that should take 1 hour took 1.40.
Well we arrive, and start warming up. Horse is holding really steady canter in to practice fence, no rushing at all. Very strange as he normally wants to charge the last 3 strides at 100mph but I wasn't complaining (alarm bells should have rung).
In to BN and he's going nowhere, just not taking me in to the fences and getting too deep but still clear to fence 12. On approach to 12 he just ground to a halt (never does this). Wasn't really a refusal as such, he just went from canter to trot to walk in the last 3 strides. Now I'm really concerned so take him straight out.
Check him over outside and he's moving fine, nothing obviously wrong so decide to warm up for the 95 open. Same thing in the warm up as before but now he's backing off as i turn in to the fence.

Went clear in the 95 but dont know how

Every fence was a strugle with me having to push all the way and jumping everything from almost a standstill (very scopey horse). Lad is definitely not right so leave it there.
Only thing I can come up with is he might have a minor virus. He seems fine in himself, just a complete lack of interest or energy. Obviously not going to compete at the weekend. He'll have a few days off and see how he is then. If no better then it will be vet time

Poor horse . I think he needs tucking up in bed with a cup of hot chocolate and a good book.

Thats pretty much what i did only he prefered a DVD to a book.

Oh dear.
Does sound like hes a little off colour. Probably the change in weather? I blame the weather for everything. This time last week was very mild and very wet???

I agree.... DVD and large drink and stay indoor in this weather

Hope he feels more his old self soon.

Poor you, what a horrible day. He couldn't have been mildly tying-up could he? I know my lad was like that and it was so much worse when it was freezing cold.....just a thought.

Shame, hope you find the prob soon - I want to hibernate till Spring, maybe he does too! My dressage day was poo too due to other people, boors in the warm up and a meany judge! Shall give up soon!

Oh dear, hope he gets better soon. If its any release, i'm having the same with Star at the moment, completely of her work and I did the same, went jumping, she was wayyyy tooo calm so thought somthings up!!

She's had her back checked and did have some shoulder/neck soreness but I also think its down to a bit of virus. Im just giving her some time of at the moment....

Cat had a phase of this once. Normally he was a total nutcase jumping but he was exactly as you described. Got the vet & it turned out to be congested lungs. He had powder in his food & I took him jumping a few days later (on vet instructions as he was s'posed to 'cough it up') & he went mental again. I've never been so pleased to have my arms pulled out.

It was really odd cos he lived out ie not in a dusty environment & he had never really coughed.

Hope you get to the bottom of it. Guess we won't be seeing you on Sunday.

Were there any outward physical signs of this? Just curious as my boy was blowing quite hard after the 95 which again is very unusual for him. Normally doesn't even puff slightly after a round.

Nope, wont be at keysoe on sunday. Well i might go over to watch. Really dont know what to do on the sunday.

No - no outward signs at all. He was eating, still spooky out hacking, still spooky schooling & NOT coughing - he only coughed maybe one cough every other day, but it was just a 'lung clear' type of normal cough.

The only difference was that normally when he saw a jump, he was off like a heat seeking missile, & instead he totally wasn't interested. Went from jumping 1 m 25 tracks to refusing tiny x poles. Instructor & o/h thought it was a schooling/staleness issue & both thought I was being paranoid/wasting £££ getting the vet.

I will PM you this too in case you don't go back to this thread.
