well i am anyway!

just got a text from a livery saying the farrier has just shod fox and 2 other horses and is raging that there was no money left for him.

Now usually, he sends me reminder text to tell me when he's coming as he's not always sure of the exact date he'll be back up after shoeing, i didnt hear anything from him and in all honesty i totally forgot as i have a lot going on just now.

the thing im annoyed about is that instead of phoning or whatever to let me know he was up, he just went ahead and took fox out his stable without permission and shod him. The same with one of the other horses.

So i now i have to somehow scrape together 75 quid out of thin air because i hadnt budgeted for it while christmas shopping, AGH.
 
I wouldn't be happy about him not reminding you yet being unhappy that money wasn't left and would point that out to him

However you may not have known the exact date but must have known it was due so I would be more angry at myself for having to find the money and not putting it aside ready I think. I know you didn't know the exact day but you would have known it was before or after Christmas!

So yes I would be annoyed but i would also be kicking myself
 
Ahh ok... Try seeing if he acknowledges that he had turned up a week early maybe? He may let you pay some now and some next week
 
No I would not be happy at all. And I would tell him that - the trouble being that you don't want to lose him as a farrier !

God i am soooo lucky with my farrier, I appreciate him all the more when I read threads like this. :)

yeah im gonna text him once i see foxs feet tonight. hopefully he wont fly off the handle, ill have to do my best to keep me cool too haha :o

exactly! he's a good farrier, always does a great job, but its just frustrating that the timings all off, and he easily could have let me know he was at the yard
 
I would not be happy at all. I won't allow my horses being done without my being there anyway but to breeze in a week early and help himself to them from their stables... No, would not be happy at all. But that's me.
 
:confused:Ummm..... if he did turn up a week earlier than you expected and normally arrange - how did he expect you to know to leave money out for him???

It's Friday today, so he might have figured it wasn't too early in reality to do the job instead of next week (maybe he's booked or away next week?) but that still doesn't explain why he's cross no money was left for him. I'd speak to him in person. He may well have sent you an email/text but for one reason or another you and the other person involved didn't receive it. (Weather related?) I only suggest this because I cannot understand why else the farrier would be so p'ed off about no money being left unless he was under the impression he HAD let you two know he was coming out today.
 
Have you actually spoken to him? He might have just made a grumpy comment and this was just chinese whispers. If he was that peed off he wouldn't have shod the horse.

I would be angry at the horse being done without me there - I'm another that insists on me being present.

Call him and simply explain that you have him down for next week and can you pay him then. It's obvious that one of you has put it in the diary wrong. It happens. I've done it with my farrier and been toddling up the drive to find my way blocked by his unexpected arrival!

well i text the other livery and she never heard from him either, so apparently we've all to contact eachother psychically now? having to borrow money off of my parents, which is my least favourite thing to do. ugh.

it was definitely next week as the livery that text me said she just happened to be up at the time. now that i think about she also could have let me know he was up and was shoeing my horse.. i will be contacting him later on once i see if his huffiness affected his shoeing ability! :rolleyes:

So phone him. Say, sorry for the mix up but thought you were due next week. Would you mind if I popped cheque in post for you next week as that's when I get paid?

Can't see him objecting to that...
 
Id be very annoyed. I'd check his feet, then send a polite text saying that you have it down that he's shoeing next week as that was pay week, so that's when the money is available, in future please do not remove fox from his stable without you there. I'd also get a fixed date at time of shoing so no further confusion.
I don't like people handling my horses without permission and this wouldn't be acceptable at all unless prior permission had been given.

yeah thats why i am! me too.. unfortunately our last farrier was banned from the yard as he had a run in the the YO, and the one i used before that i caught hitting fox in the face so you can see why i told him where to go x

how i wish i could! when he fractured his leg last year vet said it would be worth getting his shoes off. he was fine until we started bringing him into work and he got very footy, and as our yard is quite bumpy he was always hobbling about so the shoes were back on :(
