Lunged my horse this morning and there was a clicking noise from him hip area...?! He wasn't lame, infact he was as lively as ever but I'm slighty concerned by it.

I've never heard it leading/riding etc, only on the lunge.

It's definitely not from his legs it's like the hip and is a low knocking click (if that makes sense!)

He's 12 and he's not been lame or had any injuries since I've had him.

Any thoughts? Should I get the vet out?

Hi! My TB mare developed a "clicking hip" after she went for treatment for her back (to be fixed!) and it clicked ever since. She was never lame, sore or showed any signs of discomfort. I heard it can sometimes be the ligaments moving over a joint (or something like that!) like when we bend down and our knees click! Lol but I would just keep an eye and see if he becomes unsound. Maybe try getting some joint supplements or cod liver oil, that usually helps :)

Thank you for that :)

I was panicking and had visions of huge vet bills! I'll see how he goes but he's showing no signs or soreness etc...

Do you think it's worth phoning the vets for their advice?

it can also be a muscle weakness or so i've heard and putting him on the lunge would show that more than other work. I wouldn't worry unless lame or sore but you can ALWAYS phone your vet for advise
