my horse is 6, i'vr had him for 4 months now, he's still out 24/7 clipped and rugged. ridden 5-6 times per week inc dressage lesson and a fast hack work. competed lightly around once or twice a month. grazing is good for this time of year. he looks fab, if anything he's too fit as he can be very fizzy. currently i'm not feeding him anymore than a handfull of basic D&H mix as a token feed. and i mean a small handful!
everyone keeps saying i should look at cutting his feed down as he's very full of it etc but he's not getting any really! should i be feeding him? he was never fed really either in his old home and i dont want to make him anymore fizzer. he will be coming in over night soon and will get adlib haylage.
your thoughts and ideas appricated.x

Have you tried him on something like HiFibre nuts instead? I can't believe that he wouldn't need some sort of feed if hes' doing as much as you say - but it could be that the mix is just making him too over the top (even such a small amount).

if he is a bit fizzy i would suggest soaked hay not haylage if it is going to be ad lib seeing as he is doing so well off so little but other wise keep the feed as the same untill you feel you need to make a change

ye his weight is excellent and i feel doing quite a bit as he is he should need something.... can a small handful of lesuire mix make any difference? maybe i should try him on something else

My horse cannot tolerate ANY mis...even cool mix- sends him demented.

I would seconf the fibre/oil diet if he's that fizzy.....or nothing at all until the grass goes off.

Lucky you...my horse needs alfa A oil, spillers slow cubes and speed-beet to keep him looking decent this time of year

Soo jelous, wish my boy could survive on such a small amount.

As has already been said how about some good quiality chaff. I still think he will need some vits and mins, with all the work he is doing

if he looks fine then i wouldn't change anything but i agree he should be getting a vitamin supplement. My mare gets hot on mix/nuts so i feed alfa-oil and NAF general purpose supplement
