As title really, have had S nearly two years, in that time I have never seen him roll in the field.

Have just moved yards and a few people have commented that he is always so clean (he's a grey) and that they would worry if their horse didn't ever roll. He has led down on occasion and seems to get up with no issues, he is always covered in shavings every morning so I know he lies down in the stable overnight.

He is generally very chilled, I could count on one hand the amount of times I've witnessed him hooning round the field too. He seems extremely content and happy but am I maybe missing something???

Never seen my mare roll in a year. She also lies down but never rolls. She has PSSM and I'm not sure if that is a factor. She's also very chilled out and doesn't bother with any running about or other stupidity either.

I only ever saw my mare roll about 3 times in 4 years, up until she was reschooled and became a lot fitter and muscular. Whether it was just coincidental or that was the main factor, but she rolls quite a lot now, resulting in previously very well kept and long standing rugs being trashed. :(

I don't see my mare roll - she's a real princess and is rarely ever muddy - if you are concerned have a chiro check him over - otherwise revel in how lucky you are that you don't have a mud loving grey horse.

Just think - you could have been mother to this one!

Hahaha

Yes indeed!
He sees the chiro every six months and there are no issues, he's pretty fit. I wasn't worried until it was remarked on. Thanks for putting my mind at rest :)

Don't complain. I have a grey that likes to roll. Picture what tnavas posted in a bigger version and a horse that hates to be washed.

He one time rolled in dried up mud and came in so dusty that I could write my name on his side.

Want to swap horses? :p

My mare never rolls and she is the cleanest horse (tobino but a lot of grey on her!) she will only lie on the edge of her bed away from all of her muck (she's a 15hh in a 14x15ft stable with a big bed and has always been fairly spotless coming in from the field. The old boy is completely grey and he desperately tries to run himself into a dark bay daily in the mud.

I wouldn't worry at all.

My horse loathes mud and only rolls in dry weather - thank goodness as he is grey.
The down side is he minces thru every patch of mud and puddle out riding.
He doesn't gallop about if its muddy in the field in case the poor little prince splashes his tummy.
I love having a clean horse - he lays down in the stable and gets dirty so I know he is ok - and rolls loads in the summer when its dry.
Dont't worry, be grateful
