Should I be worried - post castration

Toby was castrated a week last Friday and it went well, he is bugger for trying to get his stitches but has had his hat on most of the time. Yesterday he still had 5 black stitches in but today they have disappeared. He had his hat off while I was doing the house work as it has been driving him crazy and he followed me about. I was a little concerned that he seemed to be able to lick his balls (or where they were) with it on and wonder if he has managed to lick them out. I am not sure if they are disolving or not. Mum had her dog done recently but he had a retained testicle and his op looks completely different to Toby's. He is driving me mad scratching with his foot an trying to lick himself with his hat on but until we go to vets on Monday then I am not taking any risks. Should I be worried enough to call the out of hours?

Pin the boy down and have a look even after 5 days the op site should be well nipped togther, esp from a castrate, they re only small slits
The worst he can do is lick or nibble at the site, so keep hood on and have a look and see if the wound had nipped together yet.
I would guess they are disolvable.

Believe me, I have had him pinned to the kitchen floor and the car seat earlier when I spotted it! It is well nipped together and not too sore looking. They shaved a lot of fur off and I was not sure if this was making him really itchy, rather than the op site so much. Mind you that might be an old wives tale as it came from my mum! Thanks for the reassurance. He is going back on Monday anyway so hope I don't get too big a *******ing off the vet, although I don't think it was my fault as such that he is a dog contortionist.

Is there a rash where his fur has been shaved? Some dogs develop a rash when they get clipped and this could be irritating him. However, if the wound is looking like it's healing well, not lumpy, oozy or bloody then I shouldn't worry. I had my dog castrated a couple of months back and although he left his wound alone, during the first couple of days when we put the bucket on him, he would always manage to yank the whole thing off! Hope everything goes well at the check up tomorrow

Put some Aloe Vera on the shaved area and if that stops him going at it that is a fair indication that its the shaving that is bothering him! When Boots was getting his initial treatment and had a shaved leg he wasn't touching the wound but was going mad at his shaved leg!

If they were NOT dissolving stitches the vet should have given you an appointment when you picked your dog up for c. ten days hence to have them removed.
