well to post this obviously i am.

today i went down to do my mare, fed her as normal and she woofed it down in the usual fashion, it was frosty this morning so i put about half a bale of hay in the field (she's on her own) then turned her out, she walked around the feild and did her usual morning hello's to the horses in the other fields. she then stopped in the middle of the feild and stood like a lamantic would (front feet streched out in front of her, sort of how a gelding would stand to wee) stayed like that for about 30 seconds, then started walking around the feild, she did this a couple more time.

she then when to the cornor of the feild and did a poo (very tidy mare

) and did the strenching thing again. she did start nibblibng hay. i had to go so i got another livery to keep and eye on her.

am i just worrying for no reason?

I know some horses stand like that if they've injured their suspensory ligaments but you'd probably know about it if your mare had done that! x

Could she have been stretching?? Some horses don't like to roll if its frosty and frozen, so perhaps if she wanted a roll but couldn't, she had a big stretch instead. Did she do it again, or just when she was first turned out??

Ditto stretching!

if your worried about it being lami you should check her feet hot or pulses and get her off frosty grass as its BAD for lami.

as for suspensorys not always as obvious as you think dealing with one right now wasnt lame no heat or swelling just no quiet right under saddle in trot or canter very very slight!

Years ago I had a TB mare that got colic regularly and the first sign was her standing stretched out in the manner you describe, probably in an attempt to ease her discomfort.. probably not the case but worth keeping an eye on.

lulup that just what i was worry about, this morning she has pooed for england and seems better (about 2/3 of a wheelbarrow as apose to th normal 1/2 a wheelbarrow).

i wasn't concernabout lami as she is a poor tb on a fibre diet and not alot of grass. if i had suspected that the vet would have ben out there and then.

thank you for all you replies.
