My pony is on little grass at the moment, but without my knowing the fence has been lifted to allow them a corner of the field of rich grass. Today when I went to feed him he looked a little bloated, and left some of his tea (which is unheard of for him!). He then lay down for a bit and rolled, before getting up to have a shake. He seems ok, but just looks like he's completely pigged and needs to recover! Should I be worried? Thanks!

I would keep an eye on him, make sure he isn't rolling lots more than normal, kicking or nipping at his stomach, etc. I bet he will be fine and just stuffed himself full!

if its out of character for him to be lying down i would keep an eye on him. my little sec a kept lying down when he had a mild bout of colic, but showed other symptoms as well, he kept stretching like he was going to go for a wee and looked generally uncomfortable so i took him in to a barn that i could see out of a bedroom window, kept an eye on him and thankfully it passed.
could be that he has just filled himself up with grass!

Hi Bramble,

I totally agree with Sunny and Jump around - deffo keep a close eye on your pony - it may be a mild bit of gassy colic from pigging out!

It may just be that he has stuffed himself full - but deffo a good idea to keep a close eye,

Not sure if you have heard of a product called Coligone - I would recommend to all horse owners to have a syringe of it handy in their first aid box - its a great digestive soother and would be fab to ease your ponys bloated belly!

I have used it when my old chap has been a bit gassy and bloated, and even when he has had colic - the difference in him 30 mins later is incredible!

I would also try to find out who moved the fencing - and politely ask that they dont do it again!
