Should I be worrying?? Advice please!

Just thought I would pick your brains. My 5yr old seems to have constant heat in her front feet, they never feel cold lately. She isn't getting much work due to my recovery from illness and concentrating on my other girl but when I do ride her, I get a feeling something isn't right, can't put my finger on it, she isn't lame but does seem to be reluctant to work as though she is being lazy. My friend lost 2 horses last year to bad ligaments in their feet and now I'm worried something is wrong!! Thinking of getting the vet out to check. Is there anything else I should know or look out for??

Do you have a gravel yard or car park you could try lunging her on at a slow jog trot? This should show up foot lameness if there is any.

No, don't have a gravel yard, its all grass. At first I thought it was because she is still green but defo have a funny feeling. She is a 16hd ISH.

Defo get the vet.

Lami causes heat and a reluctance to move forward freely but I have seen the same probem in a horse with trouble with his coffin joint.
Saying that it could be bruising or corns, could guess all night really!

Whatever it is, if there is something, its affecting both front feet. Just been to check them, Pheobe's feet are ice cold, Emma's are still hot!
Think I'm gonna have a chat with the vet on Monday if they are still the same.

If you persistantly think something is not right then I would listen to that instinct and call the vet. It might be (and hopefully is) absolutely nothing, but speaking to a professional will put your mind at rest. On the other hand it can be really hard to spot bilateral lameness, for example, because a horse can be equally sore in both legs so not favour one, so sometimes the only indication is reluctance to go forward. If there IS something wrong then it is better to know so you can treat it.

It may be as straightforward as her being young, green and unfit! Get her checked over then, once she is given a clean bill of health, put together a schooling and fittening plan and go from there (if you feel up to it and your own health allows of course).
